It's way too loud in here. I can't hear anyone and I feel like I can't even hear my own thoughts.
Aren't Thanksgiving parties supposed to be quieter since it more of a peaceful holiday?
Usually, I'd try to get out of such a bothersome environment, but I think I needed the loudness to silence the chaos going inside my brain this time around. Just this one time.
I mess with the rubix cube in my hands absentmindedly as I observe everyone who'd shown up to the party. Some of these faces, I recognized. Either from attending high school with them, or seeing them on the newspaper for being involved with shady things.
Hell, there were even felons walking around, drinking and disgustingly groping every girl they could get their hands on. And the other half of people, I didn't recognize. They most likely came from Bridgewood High or neighborhood colleges.
As for me, I didn't want to be here. I'd rather be at home, finishing my book or helping my mom knit one of her projects. Even sitting with Dad through a stupid baseball game sounded better than this.
But Hanna. She's driving me insane.
She's figured out where I work and I was going to pick up a shift at the library tonight but after seeing her car in front of the doors, I left before she could see me. I wanted to go back home and stay huddled up in there but I know the kind of person Hanna is.
She'll chase you down until she gets what she wants and I wasn't about to deal with that. So I'm using this godawful party as an escape.
With my attention back on my cube, I didn't notice two people come up to me until they started shouting, "hey" over the music.
Looking up, I see two girls in front of me with drinks held tight in their hands. The one on the right is a blonde girl who looks way too young to be at such a party and the other girl has black hair with a wide smirk on her face as she stares at me.
What did they want from me?
I look at them in confusion. "Do you know me?"
Blonde-haired girl shakes her head. "We wanted to know if you'd like a drink."
"No thanks." I decline easily.
Black-haired plops down on the couch besides me, pouting. "Don't be such a bore, you're at a party." She then pushes her drink towards me. "Here, have some."
I scoot away from her to create distance between us. I didn't like the little space between us. "I said no."
"Fine." She rolls her eyes.
I look away from her, fiddling with my cube as I looked around the party mindlessly. I don't know what I was looking for, but I just didn't want to pay attention to the two girls bothering me anymore. I was actually hoping they'd telepathically get the hint and go away. But they didn't.
"So."
I jolt when I feel a hand circle around my arm. I turn my head and narrow my eyes at blondie who had sat on the other side of me, grinning predatorily. I move my arm away from her quickly.
