It's been a long hell of a week.
But finally, it's Friday and school is almost out.
Everyone in Mrs. Hill's class is overly excited, jumping around because today was the Homecoming parade and this Sunday was the dance.
When I say everyone, I meant everyone. The jocks and April's group of friends by the far left side of the classroom were the loudest, but the rest of the kids were also chattering excitedly, talking about who was going with who, who was going to be King and Queen, and which dress would suit which tie.
I was watching the chaos quietly, finding entertainment in the conversations I was overhearing. I had no one to talk to in this class now, with Saint having been gone for this entire week.
After I drove him home, nothing. It's like he didn't exist. He didn't come to school, he didn't go to work, and he wasn't answering Max's calls or my texts.
The teachers have also noticed his absence. So that's why when the bell rings, I'm walking out with a heavier backpack than usual because his teachers had called me to the office during 5th block and had given me all his work under the assumption that we were in contact and I knew what was up with him.
But what the hell was I supposed to do with this binder full of schoolwork? Just show up at his house and give it to him? That's weird, right? Ugh.
Sighing, I throw my bag in the backseat of my car and hit the gas, heading straight to Rocket's Corner.
Max, Kesam, and I agreed to meet there.
Once I'm parked in front of the library, I don't waste any time on getting down and hurrying inside. Looking around, I spot Max and Kesam almost instantly, sitting in a booth near a huge window.
Walking over, Max smiles instantly and holds his hand out for our handshake. After that, I slide into the booth next to Kesam and look between the two.
Raising an eyebrow, I ask, "Do I need to introduce you two or are we good?"
Kesam shakes her head. "I'm so stupid, dude. I actually know Max from school, I just didn't recognize him with all the tattoos. He was actually my favorite senior when I was a sophomore."
Now that's a surprise.
I look back at Max who had a small blush on his cheeks, still smiling. He nods his head, "I was a pretty loud kid. Just a little too skinny back then."
I smile. "Well that saves us some time then. So. Everyone knows what our mission is, right?"
"Yeah, so let's plan this out quickly. I have to go chaperone at the Homecoming parade." Kesam groans. "I hate that Bridgewood and Crescent High have their parades together. It's annoying."
Bridgewood High were having their dance on Saturday and Crescent High were having theirs Sunday. Either way, I was having fun on both days in my room filling my belly with food and not leaving my room. Hallelujah to being a loser.
"There's a Thanksgiving party that happens every year," Max explains. "Every member of the drug cult comes and some high schoolers even go. It's a big thing and every year, April doesn't go."
