The weather was cool, the sun was hiding behind the pretty cumulus clouds, and the birds were chirping. The grass was freshly cut and green, and there was a scent of candied yams and apple pie baking that lingered in the air as Ava and Assyria moved about in the kitchen with the twins. It was Thanksgiving morning and for some reason, none of the kids had heard Renae move upstairs yet. She was normally the first one up, preparing the food but this year was different.

Kairo still couldn't get rid of the uneasy feeling in his spirit but learned to deal with it. Instead of everyone spending the holidays on neutral grounds at Ary's and Dajon's house, Renae decided to have the gathering at her place but where was the host?

"Are tha' guys coming?" Assyria asked the twins as she cleaned the chicken wings.

"Later, after they spend time with deh family," Kaari answered, stirring the cornbread mixture.

"Am I crazy or has mom been m.i.a lately?" Ava whispered, peeling the potatoes.

Reign and Kaari exchanged looks then stared at their younger sisters curiously, "Wah ave wi been missing?"

Ava shrugged, "Hard to tell, I'm either working, at class, or making tha' clothes. But I haven't seen her in tha' two days I've been over here."

"She's been sleeping a lot," Assyria informed.

Reign's brows dipped, "Lakka shi pregnant?"

Assyria frowned, "How would dat even be possible?"

Kaari snickered, "Nutten."

"Tha' four musketeers," Kairo joked, entering the kitchen and stole a piece of ham.

"Really!" They all took turns hitting him and he laughed.

"Ay, where's tha' love? Dis is abuse!" He pretended to pass out and they busted out laughing.

"Bwoy, get up!" Kaari laughed, hitting him with the hand towel.

Chuckling, Kairo stood and dusted off his pants, "Where's dukes?"

The girls shrugged.

Looking around, he furrowed his brows glancing at the time, "I'll be back."

"Alright," they uttered, returning to their cooking and conversation.

Making his way up the stairs with the same gnawing feeling, Kairo rapped an old Rich Homie Quan song until he made it to his mom's door. Knocking, he didn't feel the need to wait for an invite as he opened the door.

"Du— what in tha' fuck happened to your back?!"

Scaring the shit out of Renae, she put her hoodie on quickly and turned towards him, "It's nothing, I fell," she shrugged it off and sat down.

"Fell?" He stared at her as if she assumed he was some kind of nincompoop. "Dat shit does not look like you just took a damn tumble, mom!"

Walking towards her, Kairo reached for the hoodie and she stopped him, "I hurt myself dancing... can you stop?" She frowned.
