Hiding behind a white-clothed bush, breath ascending in white puffs, Ava tried to muffle her laughter, with a snowball slowly melting in her hand as she waited on Lucky to appear. While things were being discussed at her parents house, she and Lucky decided to finish their talk but ended up challenging each other to a winter war. After another minute passed, she heard the snow crunching. Lucky was closing in on her. Gathering more snow, patting and rolling as quickly as her gloved hands would allow.
The crunching stopped and so did Ava's movements. She steadied her breathing and looked left to right then balled her lips. She knew Lucky was near, but she didn't know which direction was safe for her to make her escape. Creeping toward the right, careful not to step on any fallen branches or leaves, she remained crouched and had her snowball ready for action. Peeking toward Lucky's hiding area, her brows furrowed noticing the footprints scattered in the thick bed of snow.
He was smart.
"Where'd he go?" she rose and turned around and was smacked right in the face with the ice.
"OUTTA HERE!" Lucky laughed, holding his arms up in the touchdown style.
Wiping her face, Ava blew out a breath and frowned, "You. are. dead!"
Pellets of snowballs whirled through the air from the pair as they ducked for cover, reloaded, tossed more, and ran. Scooping up snow as she ran for cover, laughing her head off, Ava tried to run backward and chuck her packed snowball but Lucky's hands were too quick for her. As the ice-cold snow crashed against the side of her face and melted, Lucky threw another and she ducked.
"Too slow!" she laughed, throwing hers and watched as it exploded on his back.
Bending down to scoop up more snow, she tried to form the circular shape quickly but was tackled. Rolling around in the snow, throwing hit for hit, Lucky got the best of her and pinned her arms above her head as they laughed like two best friends.
"You got a lethal right hook," he chuckled, laying next to her and attempted to steady his breathing.
Giggling, Ava fixed her beanie and sat up, "I used to box," she coughed, fanning herself.
"Trust me," he gave her a look, "I figured dat out a while ago."
Straddling his lap, she pouted, "You're never letting me live dat down, huh?"
"I'm playing with you, love," he fixed his hood and stared at her, "You fast tho."
"So are you!" she laughed, wiping the snow from his beard.
"I ain't tall for nuffin'."
Ava giggled, "What'd you say?"
"See," he cut his eyes at her, "Dat's exactly why I wasn't tryna use my lingo."
Ava sucked her teeth, "Lucky, just say it again. Dang, you a baby."
"Me," his eyes widened and Ava busted out laughing.
"Say itttttt," she shook him and he pretended to be dead. "Luckyyyyy!"
"A'ight... nuffin," he eyed her.
"That's cute," she smiled.
"Mm-hmm," he squinted.
"Don't mock me," she hit his arm.
"Nah, 'cause yo ass be squinting like you need glasses or some shit," he busted out laughing then laughed harder when she hit him again.
"Haha, soooo not funny."
"But it is," he chuckled, "You know yo whole fam does it?"
Ava huffed, "It's hereditary."
"Naaaah, y'all blind than a ma'fucka," he busted out laughing again, "Don't one of tha' twins wear glasses?" he laughed some more.
