"It warms up one day and you forget how to act," Kairo said after snapping a few pictures of Kelly.

It was February the 12th, the afternoon of Ava's birthday and a day after Renae had told the kids about King being checked into rehab and Kairo just wanted to go out and shake things off. All of the kids were blaming themselves in a way and just wanted to sort through their thoughts alone. They all felt as if they should have checked on their father more or paid better attention to his behavior. Even the twins felt guilty. Although Kaari told Ava that it wasn't her fault, Kaari also felt as if she should have taken more trips or spent more time talking on the phone with their father.

But what none of them understood, was that King had been drinking and was going to drink rather they came around more or not. But Kairo felt as if he should have put his pride to the side and hung with his dad more instead of spending so much time with his mom, but Kairo didn't realize that each kid had an unknown attachment to each parent. Whereas Ava ventured more toward their father, Kairo ventured more toward their mother, for multiple reasons.

Assyria loved both parents equally but would agree that she had a different attachment to their mom. That was their mom, that was the only answer Assyria could give if asked. Renae was their mom, she would always be in her shadow while still loving her father but her love for their mother was just different since she did indeed sacrifice her body to carry her. Reign was a daddy's girl, everyone knew that as was Kaari, but over the years, everyone had realized that Kaari had favored their mother a lot.

But Kairo still felt bad, which was why he wanted to be out and about. He wanted to clear his head.

"Kai!" Kelly cut into his daze.

Furrowing his brows, Kairo stared at her confused and she pointed to his ringing phone. Staring at Zaire's contact, Kairo answered and Kelly just stared at him concerned.

Last night he had one of the worst nightmares ever and called her around three in the morning in a panic. All of his nightmares involving Trent were scary but the one he had last night felt extremely real and he had thought he died when Trent shot him. Kairo had told Kelly multiple times that he could feel the burning sensation in his chest but couldn't feel his heartbeat and she had to tell him that he was psyching himself out and having a panic attack.

Kelly stayed on the phone with him until six that morning, not knowing just how much Kairo appreciated her and needed that.

"Hey," Kelly placed her hand on his shoulder, realizing he had spaced out again, "You ok?"

Kairo nodded, "Yeah," he sat at the bench and focused on Zaire talking.

"I heard about Uncle King... how yuh stay?"

Kairo shrugged as if he could see as Kelly messed with the dandelions. "We won't be able to talk to him for a couple of weeks but I'm alright... I just wish he would have said something... I don't know."
