Warning: I wrote this in high school (hence, the typical use of the sun and moon as symbolism), but it still stands as one of the longest poems I've ever written. I wonder what made me so devoted to finishing this.

Down the moonlit path
While the sky was inked with a midnight blue and spread across the city, with its silence scattering as tranquil as a dull, withered fire, little, bright dots came out to play, and when connected, 'twas the showcase of their true beauty. They brought life into the endless darkness, sending the day down the wire, but it was the crystalline wreath of purity that served as our guide, watching over land while sitting pretty, "Let the sun rest," she pleaded, for it was her one and only desire.
The moon was a just and equal leader 'til morn, shedding light onto our restless hearts, for in each person was a little guardian that took care of us from above. A single star held only a million words, a thousand feelings, trying to fix their broken parts. After all, the souls of the night didn't even need stars, if it weren't for the silent killer called love. However, I was unlucky – chosen like a target to a gunshot, as I needed more than one star to heal; I was never even complete from the start.
Beams of brightness lined up the nearly empty sky, almost trembling amidst the nocturnal space, forming a path, a promise for the refugees of giving up. But where were you? Where were you looking? Why couldn't I see your face? There's a path here for you, full of hope and happiness that said so much. I'd built this path since we first met, made it sturdy even in a risky phase, but for the first time, I watched it slowly crumble as you made a path for your own luck.
I was once with the sun, back when I feared the gamble of love, back when ignorance was bliss and independence was power. I lived my life without a care in the world until we had something that I thought was ours. Slowly, I helplessly watched my sun set and my heart bleed nonstop. And now, I'm with the moon, and my uncontrollable feelings are in the tragic downfall of the stars.
I must've been stupid to not get it at first, when you said you were scared, afraid to love after having loved. It seemed like I was wrong, like I was the one who got cursed – cursed with eternal heartbreak, cursed 'til I'd give up. And I totally understand, although I'm constantly hurt. You had to build your guards up, for your heart already chose a melody.
Maybe heartbreak killed me, and stole me away from the sun. I guess that's why it still haunts me under the calmness of the moon. Daytime's happier, more peaceful now that I'm gone, because the brokenhearted were set free at night, where their truths can finally bloom. Now, I watch in pain, shattered that I can't help them have fun. Before I know it, these tears will fall anytime soon.
And eventually, those tears turned to stars. There were millions upon millions that rule as they shine. They took care of us, trusted us, and have been there for us the most, monitoring my emotions before my heart crosses the line. The tears I shed for you are now the night's light source, for the philophobes, gamophobes, the scared of love alike. They're even watching over you for me, despite my life coming to a close.
The stars are still trembling, just a matter of time before they die, yet you're still not looking, still not bringing me near. Nighttime's almost over, but I don't wanna say goodbye. What can I do? You're moving farther, and as you do so, I'm starting to know. Now, I know why you made your own path instead of picking mine. You never gazed at the moon, for you chose to move forward and stare at the sun as it rose.
