Ballerina
The lotteries of our birth are formidable enemies.
They sort us into these energy balls and expect us
To train in them, grow in them, love in them,
Waste a fraction or two of our lives in them.
And when we're done, everyone expects too much—
A million-dollar face, a body worth all arms and legs.
But instead, they get these people, who, by grace,
Have the simple art of living chucked right at them.
Far from beauty, from perfection, these unlucky ones.
You'd meet more of these people in a house called home.
Some, dipped in glitter to mask their dents and cracks.
Others, drenched in water, chilly as their ice-cold hearts.
But every once in a while, you'd see miracles in her.
The sliver of light in the lottery you'd call, a ballerina.
Backstage, she's bursting with bundles of nerves,
Charged with doubts and what-if's that torment her.
But again, by grace, by faith, and by love, she'll shine through.
And those very inhibitions will propel her into the light, and
Into a performance so sublime, so beautiful, you'd cry.
You'd thank God as your witness, and you as His,
For she is worth a lifetime more than the grand lottery prize.━━━ ❦ ━━━
