he felt so much that he started to feel nothing
JULY TWENTY SECOND,
TWO THOUSAND AND TWELVE10:24 in the morning
"WHAT THE HELL were you thinking?!" yelled a furious Hajime Iwaizumi as he barged into his soulmate's moonlit bedroom. Dark green eyes widened, and his fuming steps fell short. His gaze landed on the metallic crutches laying beside Tooru's bed; the male in question curled up under the blankets, forming a trembling lump.
Instantly, Iwaizumi's fury dissipated, and he walked tentatively closer. "Tooru." His words came out in a gentle whisper. "What happened?"
"I overdid it," he mumbled under the array of dark-coloured blankets.
Oikawa did not want to see the disappointment he believed shone in Iwaizumi's eyes—especially after all the times the spiker berated him for working too hard, for putting too much strain on his already fucked up knee.
Iwaizumi sighed. He sat on the edge of the bed, reaching over and gently patting what he knew was his soulmate's hip. "Tooru, I'm not mad," he reassured. "So, look at me."
The blankets shifted as Oikawa shuffled around, his head peeking out from underneath the fabric he gripped tightly in his hands, knuckles bleaching, nails digging into the obstruction. His lips quivered.
Iwaizumi leant forward, inspecting the brunet's crestfallen face. He could see the faint tear tracks running down Oikawa's cheeks and easily put two and two together.
"Was that why you put up a wall?" he asked softly, his voice carrying a tender lilt, a normalcy when the two were alone together.
Oikawa nodded. "I didn't want any of you to feel my pain," he admitted, pushing himself up and straightening his spine.
"Tooru," Iwaizumi began, running his fingers along the soft skin of his cheek. "We're in this together. Don't block us off. You scared Yuutarou and Akira. Tobio called, too. Asking what was wrong."
"I'm sorry," he whispered. Iwaizumi brushed the hair from his face; his heart ached. He hated seeing how small and broken his soulmate—his best friend—looked.
"Move over." Tooru complied, shuffling closer to the wall. Hajime slid under the blankets, taking the taller boy in his arms. He laid his chin on his head, holding him close. "Tooru, stop thinking of others and focus on yourself. You aren't alone. Rely on us more."
Tooru nuzzled into his embrace, muscles relaxing. Immediately, he dropped the wall, and on the other side of town, and in another city, his three other soulmates could feel the underlying pain slither in, as well as the disappointment he had for himself.
( one part of their soul remained block. not by him, not by any of the others. only by one )
None of them texted.
