Two weeks later...
After that little kiss between me and Jas at the parking lot, I have not been to gym. I'm ignoring her but that's not the only issue. Last week Friday me and the crew decided to have drinks after work but as I was sitting I got a message telling me to rush to the hospital, my dad is in a coma. I was a wreck, I didn't know whether to scream or cry. I just sat there in a trance until Alex noticed that something was wrong with me.
Two weeks ago...
“So guys how about drinks later?” Kele
They looked at me
“Yeah, I could use a drink honestly.”
“Drinks it is later.” Rendz
“I would like to join but I have to fetch my daughter at her grandparents place today.” Khumo
Yep Khumo has a daughter. She's such a cutie but things are not smooth sailing between him and his baby mama.
“There's always a next time.” I said.Hours later at the club.
Our table was full of alcohol. I honestly don't know how I'm getting home because I'm driving. I asked the bar lady to give me more shots, today I'm not thinking about my problems! I downed about 4 shots in one go and it left a burning sensation in my throat. I was definitely getting drunk. As I turned I bumped into someone. “Sorry” I said and went to our table.
“You good Khanyi?” Kieran
“Yeah, yeah I'm good. Actually I'm having the time of my life!”
One thing I hate about alcohol is the constant trips to the bathroom. I needed to go again.
“I need the bathroom.” I shouted!
“Let's go.” Kele
Thank God there was no line this time around. After doing my business I washed my hands but before we left I asked Kele if she's okay, she was too quiet for me.
“Yeah I'm good don't worry about me.” Kele
When we approached the table I saw Rendani and Kieran on the dancefloor. Rendani was twerking her ass off on Kieran's crotch. Me and Kele exchanged looks. Who would have thought Rendz could move like that! Alex was also exchanging saliva with some girl. If we were in a quiet space these two would be fucking. The song changed and that's when Rendz and Kieran came and sat down.
“Who knew you could move like that girl?!” Kele
“You guys underestimate me that's the problem.” Rendz
We shared a laugh and I heard my phone vibrating in my jacket pocket. It was a message from mom;Scarlett come to that location I just sent you. Your dad has been found but he is in a coma. -Mom
I started feeling hot, all that alcohol I had in my system just vanished. I sobered up in a blink of an eye. Everything started moving in slow motion. I just sat there not moving but staring into space.
“Khanyi you good?” Alex
That's when everyone started panicking and when I tried to stand up it was lights out.I woke up in hospital all confused. I tried to get off the bed but I felt dizzy so I laid back on the bed and fell asleep. When I woke up Kele was here, she must have went home to freshen up because she had different clothes on.
“Girl you scared me tlhe!” Kele
My throat was too dry. Even the Kalahari desert had no chance against my throat.
I pointed at a jar full of water. She helped me up before helping me drink the water.
“Thank you.”
“Anytime. Your brother's wife was just here she left to answer a call.” Kele
A nurse walked in, she checked my vitals and asked how I'm feeling.
“I'm good, when am I getting discharged?”
“As soon as your drip is finished, everything looks good.” Nurse
An hour later I got discharged and we left to go see my dad. I didn't know how to feel. I was just anxious. It broke my heart seeing my dad like that but I was grateful that he was alive and in one piece. After visiting hours were over we went home and I asked my brother to drop Kele off at her place.Present Day...
I was back at work and everything was much better even the dreams had stopped and I still have no clue what they meant. Zayn has been blowing my phone with messages and calls but I just ignored him. I don't want to give him false hope. I'm grateful for his support weeks back but me and him are not close. I will never forget his betrayal! The Jas situation was just confusing. I feel something for Jas but I'm not sure if it's strong enough to start an entire relationship. I felt bad for ignoring her so I finally broke the ice and texted her.
Hey Jas. I know I've been a bitch by ignoring your messages and I have no excuse honestly.
She replied.
So you alive? I thought you're dead. I hope I did not scare you the last time we spoke?
I replied.
You just caught me off guard but no, you did not scare me. We will have drinks as soon as my dad has recovered. I'm not promising anything besides drinks, we’ll take it from there.
She replied.
I'll take the drinks offer. Everything else will follow afterwards.
We continued sending each other messages before my client arrived. The day went by quicker today. Ever since my dad was found, after work I went to the hospital to spend some time with him. Yes he is in a coma but I know he can hear us when we talk to him. Mom has been better now that she knows where her husband is. She has picked up her weight. Her eyes have more life to them and her skin is back to its glowing state. I really have no clue what would have happened to me if he had died.
Before I drove to the hospital I drove to Mam’Mavis stall to pick up my order. If I keep on skipping meals like this I will continue going in and out of the hospital. Just as I arrived at the hospital I received a text message from Zayn. I decided to ignore it as well and continued with my destination. Before I could enter my dad's room. I heard a familiar female voice in his room. I quickly pushed the door open and it was my aunt. I was extremely happy to see her. My dad has a twin but we don't see her that much since she is always traveling.
“Surprise!” Aunt Nomvelo said.
It was definitely a good surprise. I had missed her so much. I just went and hugged her tightly as I sobbed.
“Hawu Khanyi ngani yami.” Aunt Nomvula said.
I just continued to sob, as she rubbed my back. I really could not believe my eyes. Everything felt like a dream.
“Is it really you?” I asked.
“Yimi ngempela nana.” She replied.
“Did mom know that uyeza?” I asked her.
“No one knew that I'm coming.”
“I'm really happy you came.” I said as I hugged her.
“How could I not come when my twin brother is sick kodwa Khanyi?”
I really pray when I get to my 50s I would look as young as my aunt and mom. After I calmed down, my aunt left me alone with my dad, so we could talk.
I took out the wipes I had in my handbag and used them to wipe his hands as I spoke to him. “I pray you wake up soon Baba kaKhanyi.”
“I miss you so much Baba, we all do.”
After wiping his hands I applied Vaseline on them and massaged them. WhenI stood up to kiss him on his forehead, I saw his pinky finger move. I thought I was imagining things so I waited for another movement and he did. I quickly ran out to call his doctor to tell him that I saw my dad moving his fingers. At first he did not want to believe me but my dad moved his fingers again.
“You see, doctor? I was telling you the truth.”
“This is a good start Ms Ngcobo. He is a fighter.” the doctor said.
I just turned and gave my aunt a bone crushing hug. I might be tiny but I'm very strong. Very strong, I should try wrestling as a career.
“He is going to be okay nana, he is strong.” my aunt assured me.
After all that drama I drove home and my aunt took an uber to my brother's house in Fourways since all her clothes were there. The first thing I did when I got home is take a hot bath before I ate my food. After eating I felt so much better. I sent Kele a text that there's progress with my dad and she replied immediately.
I really love this friendship I have with Kele, I have not known her that long but she's a good person and I appreciate having her as a friend. As I layed down on my bed, my phone vibrated. I answered without checking who the caller is.
“Hello.”
“And why have you been ignoring my calls and messages Scar?” Zayn.
I instantly got annoyed. A girl can't catch a break
“You know why Zayn.”
“No! I have no idea please enlighten me.” He said.
“I owe you nothing Zayn, but how could you expect me to answer your calls and texts when I was going through all that I've been through?” I said to him.
“But Scar you could have just answered.”
“Zayn I'm too tired for this. Stop acting like a mad man!”
“I'm a mad man just because I was concerned about you?”
“Goodbye Zayn.”
“Wait! Wait Scar liste...” I cut the call before he could continue.
This is what I hate about Zayn! He always gets the wrong end of the stick. In his sick mind he probably thinks we still dating. I have no idea how Zayn could still make me mad after all these years. The devil must be testing my patience I said as I got into bed! He is testing me!
