It's Saturday morning and if it were up to me, I wouldn't be up. Someone was knocking softly on my door. “Come in.” my dad walked in.
“Ntombi kaGatsha unjani?”
“I feel like I was hit by a truck carrying goods.”
He sat next to me. “I can't believe my little girl is moving out.” he brushed my hair and looked at me with his charming smile.
“What's wrong Ngcobo?”
“Lutho ngani yami. If someone had told me that after what you went through, you would still be this strong. I wouldn't have believed them.”
I sighed. “Sometimes I don't believe I'm strong Baba. I feel like one day I'll burst. Maybe I have been lying to myself thinking that I'm okay.”
“You are strong MaNgcobo. It's okay not to be okay. If you feel like it's getting too much, I'm here for you. We all are. If you don't want to talk with us, then you can try therapy again.”
“Am I not the luckiest girl to have you as a father? Come here you old man.” I opened my arms and we hugged one another.
“Get up and get ready, you're moving into your apartment remember?”
“Kodwa Baba, everything is already there. All I have to do is move in.”Last night we partied like there was no tomorrow. I only got home at around 03h55. Right now I just want to eat spicy food and do absolutely nothing. We were celebrating me turning 26 and moving into our apartment. I have no idea why me and Rendani like putting ourselves in such situations. We both know Kele is a party animal but we somehow think we can outshine her. Ridiculous if you ask me! I invited Jas and they finally met her. Face to face, instead of the pictures I showed them. Jas is such a white girl! She can't dance to save her life. Everytime she thought she's the boss on the dancefloor, I had to drag her from there. Such an embarrassment! We had a nice time. My friends met my partner and vice versa.
After my shower and packing up some things I didn't pack during the week. I just stood in the middle of my room. I left some of my clothes in my room. I went outside where everyone was, to have breakfast. My mom was so sad. You would assume, I'm moving abroad. We drove to Parkhurst, where we would be living. The door was slightly open. I guess Kele is already here. I opened the door wider and she was moving things around. She turned around, smiled when she saw me. “Chommie!” I saw my parents blocking their ears. I laughed.
“So much noise Kele yoh!”
She went to my parents and hugged them.
“Your place is beautiful ladies. I love the yellow on the walls. It brightens up the room.” my mom said walking around the room. My dad, was bringing in my luggage and boxes that had cutlery and some of my books.
“What's in this box Khanyisile?” I turned and looked at my dad holding the unmarked box. I quickly snatched it from his hands.
“Uhm.. Baba lutho.” I took it to my room.
We placed things where they needed to be at. We got lucky to get an apartment that had a balcony. I loved the view. I could already see myself, holding a glass of wine, a platter of snacks and cheese.
“I have something for you ladies.” I walked back into the house to see what my mom was holding.
“What is it Mah?” Kele asked.
She gave it to me. I unwrapped the wrapping paper. “Mama!” it was a big portrait of sunflowers and rainbow. “I love it!”
“Let me see.” Kele turned the painting around so she could see it as well. “Wow! This is absolutely gorgeous.”
We hanged it above the fireplace. It fit perfectly. My dad was looking around the house to make sure nothing was faulty.
“I'm so proud of you two. But.. you two must not abuse this freedom. Not everyone is your friend. I don't want to hear that your friendship is over because so and so did this. Do you understand?”
“We do.”
After my parents helped us settle in. They left. They had to go and prepare for a friend's 60th birthday party. Refentse also came by, to help his girlfriend pack her things. I was in the kitchen cooking in “our kitchen”, when I heard a knock on the door. I wiped my hands then I went to open the door. “Jas?”
“Hi, baby.”
I jumped on her and she spun me around. I giggled as she did that. “I thought you said, you're still in Durban. Weren't you coming tomorrow?”
“The bride fell sick, so we postponed the meeting.”
“Where are my manners? Welcome, come in.”
“This place suits you. Where's your housemate?”
“In her room with her boyfriend. Come let's sit over there. Are you staying for dinner?” there were still boxes here and there but nothing hectic.
“What are you cooking?”
“Mash potatoes, creamy spinach and spicy mince.”
“I'm definitely staying for dinner.” we laughed.
“I see you also have a painting with the A.N signature. It's beautiful.”
“I know right.” the mince and spinach were all cooked. I cooked the potatoes on a medium heat. “Let's go to my room.”We were having our dinner outside at the balcony. “Chommie, who knew you could cook like this?”
I winked at her. I must say I outdid myself. Everything was perfect.
“I have to agree with Kele, the food is delicious. And the wine.”
“Thank you Refentse.”
“I wanted to ask you something last night Jas.” Kele.
She sipped on her cranberry juice and signalled for Kele to continue.
“Your face looks so familiar. I feel like I've seen you somewhere. I'm not sure where though. Have we perhaps met somewhere?”
“I don't think we have met. Trust me if we did, I would remember. I don't forget beautiful faces.” she looked at me. “Ask her.” she pointed me.
“Okay, if you say so.”
After the dinner, I walked Jas to where she had parked her car.
“Thank you for the dinner my love.”
“The pleasure is mine.” I wrapped my arms around her neck and gave her a kiss. “Next time you sleeping over right?”
“I am.” she put her hands under the top I had on and massaged my boobs before pinching the nipples.
“Jas!”
“Yeah?” she assaulted my neck with kisses.
“People.. people.”
“What about them?” she unbuttoned my jeans and slipped a finger inside. “I see you're wet for me already.”
I couldn't answer her. I let out a soft moan. She used her thumb to rub my clit. “Baby! Mhm mhm.” my tongue felt heavy in my mouth. She removed her fingers and they were full of my juices. She licked them clean, while looking at me. “Delicious.”
She kissed me again and said I must taste myself. “Goodnight Khanyi.”
“Goodnight Jas.” I walked back to the apartment laughing. I didn't realise Kele and Refentse sitting on the couch. I continued to laugh like I'm on drugs.
“Chommie?!”
Out of shock I screamed! Until I realised it was her. “You scared me!”
Refentse was just laughing. “Why are you laughing like a mad man?”
“You wouldn't understand. Goodnight lovebirds.”I disappeared into my room.
In my room I found the box I snatched from my dad, on the bed. Why do I still have you? What am I going to do with this box? I picked it up and hid it in the closet. One day I'm getting rid of you!
