The mirror showed the reflection of a sixteen-year-old brunette who was busy combing her knotted hair.

Her fair skin glowed in the sunlight peeping through the curtains.

Her amber eyes scanned herself in the reflection, satisfied with her appearance. Quickly tying her hair in a long ponytail she grabbed her bag and hopped down the stairs.

She went to the dining room to see her parents sitting at the table eating a delicious breakfast of bacon, fried eggs, juice, muffins and coffee.

"Morning mama papa." she greeted her parents seating herself between them.

The couple turned to her with a smile.

"Good morning Esmeralda."

Esmeralda took the bottle of milk and the fruit loops. She threw in the fruit loops and poured the milk into her bowl.

Taking the spoon in her hand she began eating her breakfast peacefully.

"You should have something else too. Muffins perhaps. I know you love the muffins I make." her mother Estella offered her a muffin from the tray.

Esmeralda gently dropped the spoon in her bowl with a wide grin on her face and took the muffin taking big bites of it.

"You don't like the muffins I make right? Hmm, Esme?" her father Aldric asked her, his eyes peeking from behind the newspaper he was reading.

She shook her head and Estella spoke up, "Aldric the muffins you make are terrible. Maybe you should leave the work of baking to me."

"Ah well. You're a professional baker, the best baker in town. So there is no competition there, love." Aldric turned to her with a half smirk; the one she could never forget.

That smirk of his always gave Estella butterflies in the stomach.

Estella smiled shyly, her cheeks a light shade of pink.

"Aw. Mama's blushing." Esmeralda smiled making a heart with her fingers.

"Alright. Finish your breakfast. You have to go to school and we both have work to do. Ray will be here any minute." Estella ushered her daughter.

The mention of Raiden made her smile excitedly. Her best friend since kindergarten. They always used to walk to school together. Although they never had romantic feelings for each other, everything was just platonic between them.

"Okay, mama." Esmeralda then ate the chocolaty muffin in one go.

"Hello, Esm- ouch. Shit."

The three looked to their right to see Raiden lying on the floor in an awkward position. It looked like he was trying to climb in through the window but tripped over something.

That was just something he always did and by now the Arquettes found it pretty normal yet quite amusing.

"Sorry sorry." he got up brushing his clothes.

"Oh Raiden. Just like yesterday." Aldric joked. "Here, eat a muffin. Esmeralda hasn't finished yet." he motioned him to come and sit at the table.

"I love muffins."

By the time Raiden helped himself to the third muffin Esmeralda finished her breakfast and tugged at Ray's shirt.

"Okay. Coming Esme." Raiden stuffed the muffin in his mouth and got up.

Esmeralda and Raiden bid the couple bye, opened the door and began walking down the road.

"So Esme, I'm so excited for today." Raiden said enthusiastically.
