The pink pages of the journal began fluttering as the wind blew.

The window was wide open making the breeze easily reach the desk and flutter the pages of the journal and strands of her hair.

Tapping her faux fur pen on the table Esmeralda looked up and shifted her eyes towards the window.

She got up from her chair which created a screeching noise and closed the window.

She sat down in her chair and began writing in her diary again. Being the person who loved reading and writing she poured out all of her emotions in her diary.

It's not like she had any other option. Why burden even the Pearls with the worries of her life, they had their very own.

She would have shared them with her mother but she didn't want to stress her out with anything. The emotions, the truths, the words in the diary weren't the ones that would be found in a normal teenage girl's journal.

They had secrets. And not just any secrets. Not the secrets about her crush, her poor marks, her friends. No, the journal didn't have such secrets. It had secrets about her true identity.

All she ever wished was to fill her diary with normal events and words. She wanted her diary to have stories of her school life, her friends, her crush, silly detentions.

She always knew that there was a difference between true identity and true self. But it was difficult. Of course, it was difficult for a mere sixteen-year-old to be the daughter of a saviour and a villain and then be a villain herself.

That was just sick.

.............glared at me with such hate. I know he will always hate me.

Esmeralda wrote down her last sentences and put her pen down. She wanted to close her journal and go somewhere to be alone. But another part of her wanted to reread the content of her journal.

She wanted to see what she had written in her journal again. A strange wish. But she just wanted to.

She didn't want to read it from the start. She began opening her pages randomly and read whatever she wrote.

5th June 2021.

Another attempt to steal their transformers became a failure and we don't know what to do. Leopold is throwing curses at the Dark Pearl. The same Dark Pearl whose recruits he chose himself. We tried. We tried our best.

Perhaps not really our best. We know what he will do once he gets his hands on their transformers. We may be villains according to people but we're only trying to help. We keep tricking him into thinking that we are doing our best.

But we're not. Because if we do our best we might be successful in stealing their transformers and then he will make this world hell and we don't want that to happen. The only thing we can do right now is delay it.

Delaying the theft of their transformers until we come up with a plan to kill him. Yes, we have to kill him because we have no other option. But we can't do that now, not when he is keeping such a close eye on us.

Today I heard mama talking to Parvati. Mama's best friend since childhood, her bakery co-worker and the second in command of the Dark Pearl. They were talking about him. I was so shocked to hear who Leopold actually is.

Leopold is m-

"Esme."

Esmeralda was scared as heck. Her heartbeat increased but her face remained calm. She slowly closed her journal and looked at her father with a smile.

She was calm on the outside but was having a panic attack inside. If her father got a bit more closer to her he would have certainly noticed her lips trembling in fear ever so slightly.

"Yes Papa," she asked, glad that her voice didn't come off as shaky.

"I just came here to check on you. Estella's asleep. She got quite tired. Of course, she would be. She did extra work today, baking the huge cake for tomorrow." Aldric closed the door.

"What are you doing anyways?" Aldric sat on her bed.

Esmeralda got up from her chair and jumped on her bed. "I wanted to tell you something. I got 25 out of 40 on my Maths quiz." Esmeralda said out of the blue and looked down with a slight pout.

"Oh doll. Why do you worry so much about stupid grades? Numbers never define you. Your mother and I don't care about your grades. You want to be a singer. You have a beautiful voice. Everyone knows that. Just get passing grades. That's it."

Esmeralda pressed her lips together and smiled at Aldric.

"Your mother wasn't a very good student either. She was just like you when it came to her grades. But look at her now. She is the best baker in the town. And people from nearby towns and cities know about this bakery and her."

Esmeralda chuckled at the thought of her mother being a C+ student. Well, at least she used to get B grades and A+ in literature.

"Papa?"

"Hmm?"

"Will you tell me how you and Mama met?" Esme requested giving him her puppy eyes.

Aldric chuckled, "Consider this as a bedtime story. I was supposed to see if you were asleep or not. Promise me you will sleep after this?"

Esmeralda nodded her head and plopped down on her bed. Her father did the same and looked at her with a twinkle in his eyes.

"Your mother and I first met in quite a......different way. She saw a movie or something when she was twelve. In that movie, a girl tied a letter to the string of a helium balloon and threw it in the air on a windy day. The balloon flew and a couple of days later she got a call from an anonymous person.

That girl had written her phone number in the letter as well and the person who found the balloon called her and they became best friends. So after seeing the movie that's what your mother did.

She did expect someone to find it but she certainly did not expect the 'someone' to be a boy who would then become her husband."

Aldric finished the story and looked at Esmeralda who had a wide smile on her face. It almost looked like she was trying not to burst out of excitement.

Who knew that their love story was like a beautiful fairy tale?

"This is so beautiful. Like a fairy tale." Esmeralda clapped her hands together in glee.

"I know, right? When I received the balloon I was so excited. It was the first time something like that happened. I called Estella and when I heard her voice for the first time it was so soft and beautiful. I wanted to meet her as soon as I could.

Our parents arranged a play date for us and when I saw her for the first time I couldn't believe how beautiful she was. I fell in love with her at first sight. For five years I hid my feelings for her which were growing day by day. But then we finally confessed our feelings for each other at the age of seventeen."

"Wow. This is one of the most beautiful stories I've ever heard. Now I'm sleepy." Esmeralda left out a soft and cute yawn.

Aldric smiled and caressed her cheeks, "Bedtime stories always work on you, don't they? "

He kissed her cheeks and covered her with her quilt, then pinched her cheeks lightly.

"Good night Esme," he said as he almost closed the door.

"Night-night. Don't let the bed bugs bite."
