Esmeralda tried her best to ignore her father yet she couldn't. She had to go to school.
She spent some time at the top of the stairs, looking at her father's back, wondering what she should do.
Her mother had already left for the bakery which meant that she would be stuck with her father. But Raiden showed up to her house before she even had the chance to wake up from her sleep, much to Esmeralda's relief.
When she came down she saw Raiden sitting at the dining table and Aldric trying to start up a conversation, which was uncomfortable for both of them.
She didn't know whether to hug Raiden or punch him for stuffing a bunch of pancakes in his mouth so that he couldn't talk to Aldric or answer him.
Esmeralda took a few cautious yet fast-paced steps and made her presence obvious.
Raiden mentally sighed in relief when he saw Esmeralda and got up, but not before forgetting to trip over nothing.
As for Aldric; he hoped that he would be able to have a conversation with his daughter.
But Esmeralda had other plans. She gave an awkward wave to her father and turned to leave.
"Won't you have breakfast?"
However, Aldric deeply regretted saying that when she turned to look at him, the colour draining from her face, her eyes signalling that she was in a trance now and her body shaking; signalling that she was scared shitless.
Sensing the tension and her fear Raiden quickly took hold of Esmeralda's hand.
"Esme please wait."
Aldric tried to touch her face to tell her that she shouldn't be afraid but Esmeralda who thought that he was about to slap her let out a shrill shriek and ran out. Her shriek had frightened Raiden making him jump in fear and run out as well.
Aldric was left alone, sad and hurt.
It may be dramatic to some but Esmeralda's actions were very well justified. She had been to his headquarters before and once she and Raiden had gotten lost.
They wandered for a while before they found themselves in an isolated place. They heard whispers and turned to look ahead. A few metres away was Aldric.
"What's he doing?"
"No idea Ray."
They both walked closer only to realize that this was one of the worst decisions of their life.
A man was tied to the chair with bruises on his upper body.
"You traitor. I trusted you, we all did.
Aldric stood in front of the man's half-naked body. Once more the whip hit his body, forcing a scream out of his mouth.
Ever since that day Esmeralda had a certain fear of her father but never showed it until this day.
It was quite unbelievable for her to see him be so cruel. She had always seen him as a caring and loving person. Seeing that side of him was a shocker for both of them.

"This is the worst day of my life." Esmeralda groaned.
She was at the library, relaxing for a while. Along with her in the library were Jackson, a few other students and even Andres, however, she didn't notice him.
