Esmeralda and her class were hurrying to the gym. They had PE and they were talking excitedly in hushed whispers.
They wished to have a match just like the previous time. It was so much fun for them.
Their PE teacher opened the door to the gym and revealed the senior-year students lined up in one corner of the basketball court. Including Andres.
The sophomores weren't expecting this, especially Esmeralda, who could just thank God for letting her be with her crush.
"What are they doing here?" Jackson whispered looking at the Seniors.
Mr. Ahmed turned to him and said, ''Ms. Avery was supposed to be teaching them biology. Unfortunately, she is not at school so I got these kiddos here with you guys."
"So......like we are supposed to like have PE with them." Amy looked at them as if they were a plague.
Mr. Ahmed nodded and the Sophomores groaned. They just wanted a match amongst themselves. Having a match with people they barely knew wasn't gonna be very exciting.
"Sir? Can we play um...... basketball with them?" Phoenix asked looking at Esmeralda and the other students.
The Seniors didn't mind the Sophomore's presence. Half of them were kind of looking forward to giving them a taste of defeat.
"Sure." Mr. Ahmed nodded, busying himself with a few papers in his hand.
"I don't feel like playing," Esmeralda muttered under her breath and sat on one of the benches.
Almost everyone except Esmeralda, Andres, Raiden and a few other kids began to gather on the basketball court. Raiden ran up to Esmeralda and sat next to her.
"Not playing eh?"
"Nope. Don't feel like." Esmeralda said rubbing her cold hands together.
Andres sat on a bench right next to her as the others were occupied either by other students or by various sports equipment.
Raiden smirked at Esmeralda and poked her in the ribs with his finger making her let out a giggle.
He nudged her a couple of times in the ribs and motioned towards Andres with his head.
What an idiotic bestie she had.
Esmeralda scrunched up her nose and smacked Raiden on the back of his shoulder. The smack creating a sound loud enough to catch Andres' attention.
Andres looked at them to see Raiden rubbing the back of his shoulder and frowning jokingly at Esmeralda while she stuck out her tongue at him.
Andres shifted his attention back to the basketball game. He rolled up the sleeves of his navy blue cotton shirt up to his elbows, folded his arms and crossed his legs.
The tiny act was enough to make Esmeralda think that he was really hot.
She had to mentally curse and remind herself that there was no point. Crushes are the most heartbreaking thing ever. They never like you back.
Esmeralda focused on the game only to realize that they were losing.
"Oh no. We're losing." she mumbled, nudging Raiden, who seemed neutral.
Jackson was the one with the ball. He was running towards the ring with his classmates and seniors behind him. He picked up the speed and threw the ball in the ring and it went through it. Another point to the Freshmen.
Seniors: 3 Sophomores: 2
Esmeralda cheered and clapped loudly, squealing. She wanted to play too but Leah had brought brownies to the school. In the previous class, they both sneakily ate all the brownies. They both knew that if they played they would throw up.
