The sound of the gentle breeze filled her ears as she tugged at her dress.

Esmeralda didn't want to face her father, she didn't want to see his angry and sad face, and neither did she want to talk to him.

She remained unaware of what had happened back at her home and thought that things were still terrible.

She wanted to stay away from him. As much as possible. Esmeralda knew that her father would never harm her but she would have to keep her guard up.

Although she was the best at combat and the smartest among all the Pearls she was still no match for her father.

It would be hard for her to do so, ignoring the person for days and days, not talking to him; the one who lived in the same house as her.

She shook her head and opened the door to her house. Her heart did leaps when she saw her father sitting on the couch, scrolling through his phone.

She tiptoed towards the stairs but her father heard her footsteps.

"Esme-

Never in her life had she run so fast. She screamed, ran to her room, locked the door and began breathing deeply to calm herself a bit.

Aldric was shocked for a second before he registered what happened. He felt a bit dejected. He wanted to go to her and comfort her like he always did.

But he couldn't do it because this time he was the cause of her sadness and fear.

Nothing caused him more pain than knowing that his own daughter now feared him.

The lights in Esmeralda's room were on and she realized why. Her mother was sitting on her bed looking through some photos.

"Esme, are you okay?" Estella tried to get up from the bed but Esmeralda tackled her into a hug.

"Papa scared me."

"Aw. It's okay." Estella consoled her, not knowing whether to tell her about what had happened or not. Telling Esmeralda that she revealed the mastermind to Aldric will make her panic even more in fear of getting killed.

"I want to go somewhere." Esmeralda mumbled.

"Where do you want to go? To the beach. We can collect sea shells. Okay? Beautiful sea shells; you love to collect them don't you?" Estella caressed her hair and kissed her forehead.

The soothing sound of the ocean filled Esmeralda's ears when she shut the door of the car and ran towards the beach.

The sound of the ocean's waves hitting the rocks, the light breeze and the serene atmosphere seemed to calm her a bit.

Esmeralda was still a bit tensed and hence decided to ease herself by playing with the ocean waves.

She removed her footwear and ran towards the ocean. The waves were a bit high, but she didn't seem to care.

The full moon had already made an appearance in the evening sky.

As soon as Esmeralda set her foot in the waves she felt a shiver run down her legs. The water was cold.

Nevertheless, she began playing with the waves. She moved a bit further and stopped as soon as she heard her mother, "Don't go any further Esmeralda."

Esmeralda nodded and began moving and running her hands in the cold water, splashing it here and there. The saline water now reached up to her mid-thighs.

She turned back to face her mother and waved crazily at her. But her mother who was busy chuckling pointed at her back.

Esmeralda looked back and screamed slightly when a huge wave splashed on her and carried her on top of it, pushing her backwards.
