The non-stop chatting made it difficult for the students to hear what Ms. Avery was saying.
Not that they would want to pay attention to it anyway.
"SILENCE."
All the commotion in the bus stopped immediately. Even though all the students were seated, they wouldn't stop shouting out of excitement.
Ms Avery took a breath to prevent herself from exploding.
"Students be quiet. No one is stopping you from talking. But at least don't behave like untamed baboons. It will take an hour for you to reach your destination. However, the buses will stop half a kilometre away from the camping site. And it is because the road from that point will be narrow. Hence you have to walk from there. Thank you."
Ms Avery stepped out of the bus paying no heed to the shouting that had once again started in the bus.
"What have you brought to the trip?"
Esmeralda looked at Leah and said, "Nothing much. Just my clothes, toothbrush, a few snacks and board games."
"You didn't bring feminine products?" Deirdre asked trying to peek into her friend's bag.
"We have not brought any masculine products." Jackson wondered, not understanding what they meant.
"Um, she meant like pads and tampons and such things." Esmeralda smiled awkwardly.
This was her second encounter with an oblivious boy regarding periods and feminine products, her first encounter being with Phoenix.
"Oh." Jackson blushed, making Leah smile; her smile not going unnoticed by Esmeralda.

"You and Andres were alone in the house that day weren't you?" Deirdre teased Esmeralda, nudging her slightly.
"No. Bella was there too. Pervert. Why would we be alone? What do you think we were doing there?" Esmeralda blushed, trying not to get any dirty thoughts into her mind.
"I don't know. Mast-
"Stop. We aren't even a couple." Esmeralda said, closing her ears with her palms.
"I was about to say 'mastering studies.' Now look who's the pervert." Deirdre said, literally playing the uno reverse card and laughing at Esmeralda.
"Why did you make her stop mid-sentence? She wasn't even gonna say anything offensive." Leah wondered innocently.
Esmeralda and Deirdre tensed and chuckled forcefully and awkwardly, "You don't need to know Li. You're too innocent. Okay?"
If only the poor, innocent Leah knew what her friends meant by the word that Deirdre left uncompleted.
"I feel so hungry." Deirdre said dramatically, pretending to faint out of hunger.
"Hold on. Wasn't it you who just ate my granola bar, Leah's M&Ms and your cookies in the last half an hour?" Esme looked at Deirdre with a frown.
"Oops. Guess I have a pit instead of a stomach. Now do something. Gimme something. I'm gonna die of hunger."
"No."
"Why? Gimme your cake then." Deirdre suddenly took her friend's bag and began looking for the box in which she had kept the pieces of cake that her mother made.
"HELL NO." Esmeralda suddenly closed the book she was reading and took the bag away. She searched through the bag and gave Deirdre a tiny juice bottle.
She would give away all her food items but never her mother's cake. No way, that was way too delicious to be given away.
