The jingling sound of the two bracelets colliding slightly against each other brought Estella out of her trance.
She was so busy thinking about her cake that she seemed to pay minimum attention to her surroundings.
She looked to her right to see Esmeralda holding two bracelets in one hand. "Which one do you want mama? The navy blue one would match your dress."
Estella smiled and took the bracelets. "I think bracelets would look good on you. The sleeves of my gown will hide the bracelets."
"No Mama. I don't wanna wear any accessories." she shook her head. The gown was kind of extravagant itself. She didn't want to overdo it.
"How about a tiara?" Estella suggested after thinking for a while.
"Oh yeah. The white one right? I'm gonna wear that. Bye, Mama gotta get ready."
Esmeralda ran towards her room but not before she heard Estella say, "Andres won't be able to take his eyes off you."
Esmeralda blushed but didn't stop and collapsed on her bed and thought about the ball/party.
She still had an hour to get dressed. She flipped her body to the side, crawled towards her bed lamp and took her book.
Murder on the Orient Express.
She was a huge fan of Agatha Christie and J.K Rowling and their books of course. Mystery and thriller were her favourite genres.
Before she could even open the book her phone rang. She put the book on her bed and saw the caller ID.
Ray
"Hello?"
"Hey, Esme. You ready yet?" he questioned.
There was a bit of ruffling in the background. Esmeralda assumed it was because he was trying to find the tux he misplaced.
"No, not yet. You misplaced your tux right?" Esmeralda suppressed a laugh.
"Yeah. Anyway, your mother said that you guys will pick me up from my house. We're going together."
"What about your aunt and uncle?" Esmeralda frowned, then mentally scolded herself for asking him such a question.
"You know that I'm not very fond of them right?" Raiden answered in a slightly hostile manner.
"Yeah. I know I'm-
"Sorry Esme. But they don't give me enough time and neither do my parents." Raiden sighed deeply. Esmeralda knew that he was a bit sad.
"Hey cheer up. We're going to a fun party tonight. Don't think about them too much. You have me." Esmeralda tried to cheer her best friend.
Raiden chuckled, "Yeah. Thanks Esme. Now go get ready. I know you're gonna look like lovely. The Snow Queen or something similar I suppose."
Esmeralda let out a soft laugh at the word 'Snow Queen'. He wasn't wrong though.
"Thanks, Ray. Bye. See ya at the ball.''
"Bye doll. Dress to impress.''
Esmeralda chuckled looking at her phone and sighed happily. She still remembered her fourteenth birthday very well.
Raiden had been saving his pocket money for months just to buy her the phone. Since the age of twelve Esmeralda had always wanted a phone but she was too young. So Ray bought her one on her fourteenth birthday.
And not just any phone, it had a beautiful cover. The phone cover was white in color with the silhouette of a golden doe and below the doe in sparkly blue letters was written:
