"Settle down kids, for the love of God." Ms. Avery said dramatically. She had always been very dramatic.
Esmeralda rolled her eyes and sat down along with the rest of the kids, sitting in between Deirdre and Leah.
The teachers had lit up the fire and the kids formed a huge circle by sitting down around it.
"Play games, talk to each other, whatever. But settle down for the sake of Christ's holy blood." Ms. Avery motioned the kids to sit down.
A chuckle left Esmeralda's lips at Ms Avery's dramatic choice of words.
All the kids sat down and Keiran asked them if they should spend their time narrating horror stories.
Everyone agreed enthusiastically. Jackson decided to start first.
"Okay, so there was this woman, Abby. She lived alone in the forest. All alone. She decided to live a solitary life. One day she hears about a psychotic murderer on the loose. She decides to lock out all the windows and doors. A while later she looked out of the window to see the same murderer outside her house.
She called the police and moved towards her window until she realized that it was his reflection."
Although this story was quite common a few people still got scared. The plot of the story reminded Esmeralda of a movie, 'Hush'.
That movie hadn't allowed her to sleep properly for two days.
"My turn," Wyatt said smiling broadly, rubbing his hands together.
"A man once saw his wife on the bed with their newborn baby. He smiled and slept next to them. A few hours later he woke up to hear the sound of the keys jingling and his wife calling out to him from outside the house. And then he felt two arms on his shoulder and then, BOOM."
This story scared the crap out of a few people.
"Okay, so I've had this paranormal experience. I was once at my home and I was alone in my room. Suddenly I felt cold air blow near my shoulder and what was even shocking was that the window was closed."
Many of the kids felt like they almost shit themselves at Zenani's story.
''Bruh, guess what. I've heard that if you wake up at around three in the morning, then it means some bloody ghost is staring at you.'' came a boy's voice.
''Huh? Well, I always wake up in the middle of the night and feel like someone is staring at me. And no shitting guys, mind you, I have sometimes seen shadows move around the corner of my eyes.'' Esmeralda narrated.
"Kids, how are you supposed to sleep at night then hmm? If you keep narrating such stories don't you think you will be scared to even use the restroom?" Mr Ahmed sighed, raising his eyebrows at them.
His words were followed by numerous groans.
"Hey, I've got an idea. Why don't we tell a few embarrassing or funny stories of ours." Esmeralda's suggestion was followed by many sounds of approval.
"Tell us something about yours, Esmeralda." Sia asked her.
"Oh well, what can I say........." Esmeralda trailed off blushing slightly.
"Awww come on tell us." Andy insisted as the others teased her a bit.
When she remained adamant, more teasings and urges could be heard. Even Andres was curious to hear her story.
"Okay, okay." Esmeralda took a deep breath and spoke with a blush unaware of two pairs of black-brown eyes watching her with an emotion that was far from hate.
