I wake up.
"Stella," Christine's voice says from somewhere. "Get up, it's time for your execution."
I open my eyes.
Lamar is gone.
So are Anthony and Alice.
"Where are they?" I ask.
"That is none of your concern." She says.
"I think it is," I say. "Now, where are they?"
"You do not have the ability to demand a question from me."
"It shouldn't matter," I say. "I'm about to be taken to my execution, I think I deserve to at least know where they are."
She ignores my comment and calls for the guards.
I struggle against them as they drag me away. I thrash and cry out as they hold my tighter.
They release me when we reach Alexander's room. I move away from them.
"Lie down," Christine says.
"No," I say.
"Lie down or we'll make you," she says.
"Fine, make me lie down. Kill your sister. I guess I'm fine with that." I say.
"Stella!" A familiar voice calls. He pushes past the guards into the room.
Mathew.
"What are you doing here?" Christine demands.
"She's our sister, I'm saying one last goodbye. Like I should've before I left!" Mathew says. He approaches me, his arms extended, he wraps them around me. I hear him whispering in my ear. "Don't worry, they're not going to kill you, it's part of a plan to get you out. Your friends are a part of this too."
When he pulls away, I stare at him in shock.
"Now, Stella, lie down." Christine says.
"I won't," I say.
"Get her," she orders the guards.
Their hands clamp around my arms and drag me onto the bed. They pull straps over me to hold me down.
"Alexander," Christine says. "Kill her."
Alexander appears next to me with a needle. I glance at Mathew. What happened to the plan?
Alexander brings the syringe to my neck and injects me. I feel something inside me . . . Die.
No. I'm not done. I can't die, not yet.
But then, I feel air slip through my nose. And I know I am breathing. Very lightly and slowly, but I am.
"I'll take her out," Mathew says. I see him through my blured vision as he scoops me up off the bed. He carries me out of the room. After a while he says, "Jeez, Stella, when did you get so heavy?" He knows.
"Oh, my God," Lamar's voice says from somewhere close. "What happened?"
"Calm down, Storm," Anthony's voice says. "She's just paralized, it'll only be affective for a minute."
"And when was this discussed? I was informed that we would get her out before she was injected," Lamar says.
"Yeah, we didn't tell you," Alice says. "We thought you would get all paranoid and go for her too early."
"Of course I would've!" He says. "Because what if Alexander had noticed?"
"Noticed what? The serum alteration? He's not that smart, I know him." Alice says. "Come on, Anthony, let's go get Grace." I hear their footsteps as they hurry away.
