Alice, Anthony, Jaden, and several other Dauntless stand outside the door when we open it.
"Hey, babe," Jaden says when he sees me. "Missed you."
"Jaden," Alice looks over her shoulder at him. "Just shut the hell up."
He puts his hands up in surrender. But when he glances at me again, he winks. I glare at him and he stops.
When I look back at Alice, I realize Lamar's hand is on my hip. That must've shut Jaden up.
"Look, we need to start planning immediately," Alice says. "We don't know what Christine wants to do so we need to attack ASAP."
"Alright," Lamar says. "We'll start planning . . . Outside."
When we step through the doorway, I thank him for not letting them all in my house, I would get several questions and comments that I'm not in the mood to deal with.
"So, the plan?" Alice says. "Anything?"
"Look, just calm down, planning this will take longer than ten minutes, alright?" Lamar says. She nods. "Good. Because the only way the get in undetected is the roof."
"The roof?" Anthony says. "There's no way."
"I've studied the building, I get it, you lived around there and know the area like the back of your hand. But there's a way in from the roof, trust me."
"Why should we?" Jaden asks. "I mean, you never came back to Dauntless, you came back to what's left of Candor."
"We thought Dauntless was deserted," I say. "No point in going back there if there's no cake."
Alice, and Anthony smirk.
"But there is no cake here," Jaden says. "So why did you come here?"
"Because," Lamar says. "We were with the factionless, and they decided to come here."
"Then where are they?" Jaden asks.
"In another house," Lamar says. "Didn't want to crowd them."
"You didn't answer my question," Jaden says. "Where are they?"
"I told you," Lamar says. "In another house." His voice is calm, unlike Jaden's who is starting to seem irritated.
"Which one?" Jaden's voice is cold.
"That," Lamar says. "Is none of your concern."
"Oh, yes it is," Jaden says. "I want to know."
"Well, not everyone gets everything they want."
Jaden starts towards Lamar, I step aside just as Jaden's arm swings a few inches over my head. I don't hear any contact besides skin slapping against someone else's. I turn around to see Jaden's wrist caught between Lamar's fingers. Lamar twists his arm around and Jaden cries out in pain.
"Stop," someone cries from the crowd of Dauntless. "Stop!" A teenage boy emerges and grabs a hold of Jaden's free arm and tugs him away. Jaden looks at him. "You are an idiot. A complete pansycake."
"Shut up, Zach's brother." Jaden shoves him away.
"I have a name you know, Zach isn't the only one in the family that was named." The boy says.
"Okay, shut up, Adrian." Jaden says. "Before I make you."
"Pfft," Adrian says. "You, make me shut up? No wonder I got ranked higher than you, you're an idiot." He pauses. "PANSYCAKE!" He shoves a finger in Jaden's direction and walks towards me. "You all right?"
