"We have to go." Lamar says. "Before they kill the rest of us."

I nod and wipe the tears from my face. Grace struggles to her feet and stands beside me. Alice takes her hands from her face once again, she stares at Anthony as if she could resurrect him with her eyes.

"Alice." I say. She doesn't look at me. "Alice we have to go."

"You go, leave me." She says. "I have nothing else to live for."

"Grace, you and Storm go, I'll get her." I say. Neither of them leave, I hadn't thought they would, it was worth a try though. I drop to my knees beside Alice. "Look," I say to her quietly. "I know what you're going through, you'll be able to get through this."

"You don't know what this is like, Jade." She says. "Losing someone like that, I don't think you know what it's like."

"Really? I lost my mother back at Dauntless, and you say I don't know what it's like?" I say.

"I'm sorry, I- I'm just really stressed." She pushes herself to her feet. "I'll come with you if you really think I can get over this."

I stand alongside her and nod.

We gather all of our weapons and run, the Dauntless traitors don't seem to notice us, none of their bullets are fired in our direction.

Because the train wasn't scheduled to pass by our location very soon, we decided to take a rest and wait. Lamar and I sit against a tree, at the moment, in silence. No one has spoken for several minutes. I think about everything that has happened throughout today; I had woken to banging on the door, spoken to the Amity lady, found Lamar bloody and bruised, gone to breakfast and found Lamar's father, been injected with peace serum, thought my father had disappeared, been attacked by Nate, the Amity had been attacked, and Anthony had died. The events of today turn over and over in my mind until I realize something- my father is not here with us.

"My father." I say under my breath.

"What?" Lamar asks, turning his head to face me.

"My father." I say again. "We left him."

All the possibilities of his condition flood my mind at once, allowing me only to understand one at a time. The silence returns, no one speaks but they all look at me. Tears rise to my eyes again. I press the palms of my hands to my eyes to hold them back.

After several minutes, I feel so exhausted I might be able to sleep, but one recent event still confuses me.

"Grace." I say, she turns her head to look at me. "Why'd you do that back there?"

She raises her eyebrows at me through the darkness. "Do what?"

"You held Anthony before . . ." I pause. "You know."

Grace looks away from me for a moment. "Because, " she says, "I think everyone deserves at least that as they die, its only right."

I nod at her, I had never thought of things that way- everyone deserving to know they'll be remembered after hey died, this was something amazing Grace was doing.

Grace turns her attention away from me. I look back at Lamar, he already looks down at me, the moonlight shining in his eyes. For a few minutes, we sit in silence, staring into each other's eyes.

"We should all probably get some rest." I hear Grace say.

Lamar and I both brake our gaze to see where she is, I see her lying down in the grass silently, and Alice does the same a few feet away. I look at him again, this time, I do not find him looking at me again. I decide to search a soft place to lie down next to the tree.

"I'll take first watch." I hear Lamar say.

"I'll take the second one." Grace says. "How long per watch?"

        "Two hours." He replies.

For the whole two hours, I lie awake, unable to find sleep. Finally, Lamar silently wakes Grace, indicating it is her turn to watch for danger. Lamar lies down next to me, my back facing him. I turn towards him.

"Lamar." I whisper. "What are we going to do?"

"I don't know." He says. " Probably go to Abnegation."

I take in a deep breath.  "What if they get attacked again?"

I hear him sigh. "I don't know.  There's not much we can do anymore. " I feel his arm slip around me, pulling me towards him until there is very little space left between us.

"How'd you hide the weapons?" I ask.

"I kept them in a drawer next to the bed." He answers. "Go to sleep, I know you haven't yet."

"Okay." I sigh and close my eyes. "Goodnight." I whisper quieter than before.

"Goodnight." He whispers back just as quietly.

I bury my face in the side of his neck, and soon, somehow, sleep finds me.
