I open my eyes to see Lamar, his eyes wide open, staring at me.
"Good morning," he says, his voice a bit sluggish from sleep.
"Hi," I say quietly. I roll onto my back and press my hands to my eyes, trying to remove the sleep from them. I stretch and sit up, Lamar sits up beside me.
He slides and arm over my shoulders, careful not to touch my healing wound. "How's your shoulder?"
"Fine," I say.
"And your side?" He asks.
"I'm alright," I say, taking his hand. "I'll be okay."
"Alright," he says hesitantly. I ignore it. "Let's go get something to eat."
"You can," I say. "I'm gonna go take a shower."
He sighs. "Okay." He takes his arm away from me.
I stand, walk to the door, push it open and walk down the hallway to the bath room. I strip my clothes and hop in the shower. When I turn the water on it is cold, I shiver until it warms up.
When I am done, I wrap myself with a towel and wring out my hair. I wipe my hand over the mirror and look at myself in it. My hair has grown a couple inches since I last looked at it back in Dauntless. Instead of touching my shoulders like it had before the Choosing Ceremony, it hangs around my chest. I consider taking out some scissors and cutting it back to my shoulders, but I decide against it, for I remember how I looked when my hair was long -- pretty, desirable. Instead I take out a brush and take it through my hair.
I walk back down the hallway to get some clothes. Lamar isn't in my room anymore. I take my clothes back to the bathroom and pull them on. When I get to my leggings, I struggle to get them on. I laugh quietly at myself for this, they go on tightly past my legs, even though they are thicker than they used to be, I can't get them on past my butt. I pull them off, slip a robe on and return to my room.
Lamar is in there this time, he watches me as I rummage through my leggings and jeans to find a bigger size.
"Are you looking for a special pair or something?" He asks.
"No," I say." The ones I had at first don't fit."
I feel his hands slide around my waist. I smile to myself as I turn around. I look up at him, he smiles down out me.
"You just had to grow out of them at Dauntless didn't you?" He asks sarcastically.
"Yes," I say. "I did." I turn back around and pull out a pair of leggings that used to be Christine's, ones that she gave me just days before she left. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be right back."
His hands slide away from me as I walk back to the bathroom. I pull the leggings on and they fit perfectly. I turn to the mirror, turn on the sink and splash the water on my face. I take a towel over my face to dry it and leave.
I walk back down the hallway to my room. I return to see that Lamar is gone again. I turn around to go search for him.
"Oh my God!" I yell. "Don't do that!"
"I'm sorry," he laughs.
"It's not funny," I say, glaring at him, trying not to smile.
