Roman couldn't help but smile at the beautiful sight that was Virgil clearly embarrassed about being poked at by the tailor as he adjusted the outfit that was being made. His face and ears were red, and he was glaring daggers at Roman.
"How's this?" the tailor asked, stepping back for a moment. "The white shirt is made from spider webs, carefully woven together. And the black pants are woven from the black fur of bobcats. The buttons are made from wood and stained from flowers."
"There are bobcats around here?" Virgil asked.
"Doesn't matter right now, what does is that this outfit is perfect," Roman said. "He finally has some style!"
"There was nothing wrong with what I wore before-"
"You looked homeless."
Virgil looked away with a frown as his face became redder. "I was going to say, there was nothing wrong with what I wore before. But this does look nice."
"Is it comfortable?" the tailor asked.
"Surprisingly, yeah. And I think it's cool that the shirt is made from spiderwebs."
"It is cool," Roman agreed. "Now, you just need a haircut-"
"I'm keeping my bangs."
"Fine, but you're still getting a trim. Then we can get something to eat!" Roman turned to the tailor. "Do you think you could make some more outfits for him to pick up later? I'll pay of course."
"No problem!" the tailor agreed. "Just pay for this outfit for now and I'll get started on the rest. I will say, it was fun designing the pants to account for his tail, and so easy to not make a shirt with a hole in the back for wings!"
"Yes, the buttons in the back look surprisingly stylish."
"Thank you, I'm proud!"
Roman pulled out a few shells, their form of currency, and handed it over to the tailor. "Thank you again, you're as fast as ever!"
"No problem, I'll be finished with a few outfits by the end of the week so come by then."
Roman nodded and turned to Virgil, who was putting his purple cloak back on. "Come on then, mouse."
"Can you quit calling me that? I have a name," Virgil reminded him as they left, the borrower jumping on a branch that was jutting out right in front of the door. It was a good thing it was very common for the doors for each home to be just above branches.
"Come on, you have to admit that mouse is a cute name!"
"Fine, we'll play that game, princey."
"Ha! I like that nickname! I'm a bit hungry, so why don't we get something to eat now rather than later?"
"Sure, why not? I'm not too hungry though, so I'll be okay with a small meal."
"Oh come on, you're so skinny! You're literally just skin and bones."
"It's not like it's my fault."
"Oh! I know just the place to go for a dessert!"
"Dessert?" Virgil slowed down his pace in confusion and Roman landed on the branch next to him.
"Oh come on, surely you know what dessert is!"
"N-no, is it a meal like breakfast, lunch, and dinner?"
"Oh you poor purple pessimist, we're getting dessert first."
"Nice alliteration, but you still didn't answer my question."
