Roman internally groaned as he walked to his parents room. Why was Virgil making him do this again? Didn't he say himself that he didn't have a good relationship with his own dad?

Maybe that was it, maybe he had a fight with his dad and he regretted it. Roman wondered just what it was about.

He sighed when he reached his parents door and he knocked. He heard his mother call him in and he looked at them both when he did.

The queen smiled warmly at him, and the king looked away almost in... shame?

"Roman, what brings you here?" his mother asked.

"I would like to talk with father," Roman answered, keeping the growl out of his voice.

"I think that would be for the best." The queen smiled at her husband before heading to the door. She put her hand on Roman's shoulder and smiled at him. "Go easy on him, 'kay?"

Roman smiled at her and nodded as she left. He closed the door and walked over to his father, who had returned to looking outside through the wicker window.

The king cleared his throat. "Roman?"

"Dad? I-I wanted to come to make up for our earlier fight. Though, I do not regret saying the things I did. I still stand by what I said, that you have been unfair to Virgil and I do not appreciate it."

"Thank you for being honest." Roman had to admit, that surprised him. Sure his father wasn't a big toddler, that was Remus, but he was being surprisingly easy to talk to this time. "I suppose you're correct, I shouldn't have yelled at him."

"Also, I would like you to refrain from calling him a rat. He's not a rat, or a vermin, and I don't believe he appreciates being called that."

"Very well." Roman sighed in relief, glad that his father was being reasonable. "Do you really believe he's of no threat?"

"Yes, and I also believe that if you got to know him, you would like him."

"How do you know?"

"Well, I wouldn't be here right now if it weren't for him. Honestly I'm still angry at you. So you can thank him for convincing me to make up with you."

The king sighed, "I understand. I suppose I should apologize to him."

"That would make me happy."

"This boy makes you happy, doesn't he?"

"He-he does, yes."

"Then I guess I need to be... better. I see that he's clearly family now."

"I mean, I-I guess."

The king smiled at his son, who was starting to blush. "Thank you, Roman, for giving me another chance. You've grown, and I guess I have Virgil to thank for that."

"You know what, I guess you do. I did order him to sleep though, so you'll have to apologize to him later."

"Yes, I should."

"I think I'm going to take a nap myself, I do miss my bed."

"I'll see you at dinner, my son."

Roman smiled, feeling better than before. "See you later, dad."

"Ha!" Virgil shouted in joy, successfully disarming Janus and pointing his spear under his chin.

The fairy looked surprised for a moment before smiling. They had been sparing for less than an hour, using dulled down spears, and this was the first time Virgil had won. The borrower jumped in joy, his ears high.
