"I hope he's okay," Patton mumbled slightly. They were talking about Virgil, and the investigation. Remus had brought it up while the three of them were searching for more food, there still wasn't enough. All four of them would have been searching if Janus hadn't gotten sick.

They were by the river, hoping to find some kind of food growing by the water. Though, the top layer of the river was frozen by now and the ground was practically ice. So far they've found nothing.

"Roman's with him," Logan reminded them. "He'll do his best to make Virgil feel better."

"He shouldn't be blaming himself, he didn't ask to be poisoned! He didn't ask for any of the stuff that's happened to him!" Remus argued, though none of them disagreed with him.

"I just hate that someone is trying to hurt the kiddo!" Patton said. "He's been nothing but helpful ever since he's arrived. He's saved Roman several times, and he's been trying to help with the food! Have you guys tried the mushrooms yet?"

"Yeah, they taste great! I can't believe after everything he's done, some people still don't like him."

"Even my mother likes him!" Logan added. "She's said, and I quote, 'he's very brave.' She doesn't compliment just anyone!"

Patton sighed, hating the idea that someone would go this far to hurt their friend. When he turned back to their basket, his spirits dropped even lower.

"We've barely found any food. What are we supposed to do now?" the healer asked.

The other two sighed and looked around for anything. Logan looked across the river and brightened up slightly.

"We've never looked for food across the river!" he suggested.

"Logan! You know we can't!" Patton argued. "You promised Janus that you won't go across the river! Don't be a liar!"

"He's lied to us about things before!"

"Yeah, like stealing the last bit of honey or jam!"

"He was the one that stole the jam!"

"He's never lied about going across the river! You promised him you wouldn't!"

"Oh no! I promised I wouldn't look for the human! I never promised that I wouldn't go across the river! Besides, we're looking for food! Is that such a wrong reason to go across the river?"

"Well..." Patton chewed his bottom lip.

"Come on, Pat!" Remus encouraged. "Haven't you ever been curious about what's over there?"

He took a deep breath before answering. "Okay, we just can't tell anyone."

"Yes! Let's go!"

They all grabbed their side of the basket and started making their way across the river. Patton looked down at the ice and saw fish swimming underneath. It was actually beautiful.

His heart was pounding as they reached the other side. They were across the river. They just broke the biggest rule. Oh no... they're going to be in so much trouble!

"Look! Already I found some mushrooms!" Logan said, flying over to them. They looked exactly like the ones Virgil had shown them, the velvet shank he believed. "See! It was a good idea to come over here!"

"A-and it's going to help people," Patton convinced himself. "As long as we stay away from the giants."

"We don't even know if the human lives here! He could have been visiting the area, for all we know there aren't any humans for several miles!"
