CW: nightmare, pain, and a panic attack
The cold night air bit into Virgil's skin as he walked around. His hands and bare feet were sore from climbing down the tree, only protected by bandages.
He was looking for something, or was it someone? He can't remember, only he had to find whatever it was. He can't remember why he has to find it either, but for some reason that didn't concern him.
He shivered when the wind blew, causing snow from the ground to flurry up into the air. When did it snow? Stars, why is it so cold?
"VIRGIL!" someone called him. Whose voice was that?
"Mom! Roman!" he called, running to the voice. Which one was he chasing after? Who did he need to find the most? He needs to keep Roman safe, but it's been years since he's seen his mother.
He slipped when he started to run across the ice. He was at the river now, should he run across it? Where did the voice come from again?
"Mom! Roman! Where are you?!" he called, still shivering in the cold. He stood up and found he was in the middle of the river. How did he get there so fast?
"VIRGIL!" both Roman and his mother called, though it sounded like it came from all directions.
Virgil started to breathe hard. They were both in danger, and he couldn't do anything. He didn't even know where they were at.
He turned around in time to see a bobcat jumping at him. He raised an arm to cover his face and felt the paws push him onto the ice. It cracked beneath him, and ice cold water started to rush up.
Virgil tried to push the giant paw off of him, but he didn't have the strength. He looked up at the bobcat that smiled down at him, tears freezing in his eyelashes.
"How disappointing," the bobcat snarled in his fathers voice, making Virgil's heart freeze.
The ice cracked loud under him and he found himself falling into the ice cold river. He barely had time to take a deep breath, and he found himself sinking further and further down. Struggling only made it worse, but he was running out of air and needed to get out.
Just when he thought his lungs were going to burst, he found himself falling out of the water. He screamed and flailed his arms to try to save himself.
Luckily something stringy and stretchy stopped his fall, though when he bounced up he found himself stuck to it. Looking around, everything seemed gray. Snow covered tree branches surrounded him and whatever he landed on.
Out of breath, he tried to turn to see what it was. His eyes widened when he saw the black spiderweb, a small burn starting to form in his arm.
"There, now you can't escape," a painfully familiar voice said, though no one was around.
"No, no please," he begged, trying to pull free. There was a dark laugh echoing from somewhere and the pain started to spread, still dull for now. It branched across his torso and up his neck, the burn becoming more painful.
"Let's make this quick, shall we?" that evil voice purred.
"Help! Someone help me!" Virgil cried, tugging and squirming to break free. He felt the heat spreading across his whole body, down his legs and branching across his face. "Not again! Not again! Please I can't- Help me! ROMAN! HELP ME! I CA-"
Something stopped him from screaming, and for one terrifying moment he wondered what it was before the pain erupted across him. It was so painful he couldn't even scream, flashes of biting cold and scorching heat hit him. He couldn't breathe, he couldn't move, he couldn't even think. It was absolute torture.
