"Roman, what are we doing out here?" Virgil asked, hearing the sound of running water.
"I'm taking you to my favorite spot! Unrelated to that, it's actually where I found you," Roman told him.
"I'm feeling so loved."
"Oh calm down, droopy ears."
"My ears aren't drooping right now!"
Roman turned to him as he fluttered backwards. "Perhaps, but they're droopy often."
Virgil glared at him, his ears falling down in anger.
"See! They're low right now!"
"That's 'cause you're a jerk!"
"Whatever you say, just come along!" Roman took Virgil's hand and pulled him along.
Virgil couldn't help but gasp at the sight of the river. He's always like it, at least before he almost drowned, but the way it looked from where they were was beautiful. The rapids here weren't too fast and it was babbling over shallow rocks.
On the river bank was a raspberry bush, and there was a small drop where just below water soaked smooth rocks in the mud.
"I know you probably don't like the river all too much because, well, you almost drowned in it. But this is my favorite place!" Roman told him. "It has a raspberry bush here and the water is shallow enough to dip your feet in without being washed away!"
"No, i-it's beautiful. A better view than it was at my home."
"I'm glad."
"Want to play in the river?" Virgil gave Roman an evil smile.
"Oh you're on! Though, I do warn that I can't get my wings wet otherwise I won't be able to fly."
"That's fine, if I splash water at you I'll be aiming for your face. Oh, and you can wear my cloak if you'd like."
Roman gasped, "Really?!" Virgil took the purple material off and threw it unceremoniously onto Roman. He laughed when Roman sighed, "Really?"
Virgil took off his shoes that he had been given and ran into the water as Roman put the cloak on properly. They only stayed in knee deep water and Roman splashed Virgil first, kicking the water up at him.
Virgil pushed his hair out of his face and he cupped some water in his hand before throwing it at Roman who shielded himself with his arms. He might be wearing the borrower's cloak, but Virgil still wanted to be cautious.
They ended up playing in the water for quite a bit, until Virgil's cloak was soaked. Once it was, Roman hung it on a branch on the raspberry bush.
After that, they both split a berry and soaked their feet in the water as they ate together. Roman was satisfied to see Virgil's ears high, this had been exactly what he had hoped for. The borrower needed a small break from everything that had been stressing him out.
Though it was pretty cloudy and Roman couldn't help but feel like a storm was about to come. It was getting late anyway, so they should be making their way home.
"So, little mouse-"
"That's still a pet name."
"Well I'm going to pretend it's not. How do you like my spot?"
"It's really nice, though we should start heading back soon. It's getting dark and it looks like it'll rain tonight."
"Yeah, that's probably for the best." Roman pulled his feet out of the water and dried them before slipping his shoes on. "Hopefully my parents won't freak out."
