"I still don't think I need a break," Remus argued.
"Yes you do, but I know you won't sleep well right now so I'm taking you somewhere else," Janus said.
Logan frowned when the river came into view. "You're taking us to the humans, aren't you?"
The guard sighed, "Yes. I don't like them, but you guys seem to. So, as a distraction, I'm taking you back there."
"Roman and Virgil were attacked by Ignis on their way back home last time," Remus reminded him.
"Then if we run into Ignis, that'll just be a bonus."
Remus seemed to brighten a bit at that, tension leaving his shoulders.
"And Logan," Janus continued, "we can learn even more about humans. About their culture, their achievements, their history. There's still so much we don't know, it'll freshen you up a bit."
"I still think I should be searching for answers in the library," Logan huffed.
"You mother is still looking, if there's something to be found then she'll find it. Mothers have a knack for finding things that we can't."
The wind fairy sighed and looked down at the river. It was still frozen, spring should be coming in a few weeks. It'll melt then, and the weather will become warmer. But for now, the ice was thick and the weather was gloomy and depressing. Much like Logan and the others.
After crossing, it didn't take much longer for the human house to come into view. Janus brought them to the back door, not knowing if Thomas's boyfriend was still there.
Much to his delight, he saw Thomas in the kitchen cutting up some fruit. He knocked on the glass on the back door, catching Thomas's attention.
The human set the giant knife down and opened the door, letting the fairies fly in. He closed the door once they were in, and they flew onto a counter.
"Hey guys, where are the others?"
"Busy!" Janus quickly answered, making Remus roll his eyes and Logan cross his arms with a sigh.
"Okay... Well, it's good to see you again. My boyfriend hasn't left, but he's upstairs right now."
"Guess that's too bad, we'll just leave then," Remus said, trying to fly away only for Janus to grab his arm.
"No, we won't be long. So, uh... Logan, do you have any questions?"
"Hm? Oh, not really. I'm afraid I'm a bit distracted," Logan told him, making Janus sigh.
"Is everything okay?" Thomas asked, grabbing a stool and sitting down. "You guys seem... anxious about something."
"A friend of ours was hurt badly," Remus explained. "And we should be back home trying to help him."
"You can't help him if you work yourself to the bone," Janus reminded him. "You both need to take a break, and you need a distraction."
"We sort of have a time limit," Logan told him. "The faster we find a cure, the better."
"He's sick?" Thomas asked.
"No, he was cursed," Janus explained. "We've been doing everything we can for him these last two days. These two refuse to rest."
"Well, that's not good. You need to take breaks, otherwise you'll end up continuing to hit walls."
Logan sighed, forcing himself to relax slightly. "We did find a lead, but I don't know. I'm afraid that it'll just end up being another dead end, and we'll have wasted time for nothing."
"Thomas?" Another voice called, and the three fairies saw the other giant walk into the kitchen.
"Ah, Nico!" Thomas jumped, suddenly anxious as his boyfriend froze upon seeing the fairies.
"Oh... my goodness! Fairies? I knew there was something special about this forest!" Nico quickly ran over to Thomas's side. "Hi! I'm Nico Flores!"
"I'm... Janus," he introduced himself. Something about Nico felt a bit off, different than Thomas. Maybe all humans were different like that? "These are my boyfriends, Logan and Remus."
Logan frowned slightly. "I thought all humans were scared of fairies?"
Nico laughed, "Oh, all that superstitious nonsense that we tell each other? Fairies haven't hurt humans in centuries."
Remus squinted at Nico, also feeling like something was off. His eyes widened as he finally figured it out. "You have magic!"
Janus and Logan both realized it too, that was what they felt! They could feel the magic coming off of the giant.
"What?" Thomas asked, laughing slightly as he looked over to his boyfriend.
Nico paled slightly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Well, uh..." he tried to figure out what to say. "Thanks?"
"No, no you really do have magic! Did you not know that?" Logan asked, fluttering slightly.
"I have a magic boyfriend and you didn't tell me?" Thomas teased slightly.
"I was going to, I swear!" Nico quickly told him, making Thomas falter slightly.
"Oh my god, you do have magic. Wait, do all humans have magic?"
"No, it seems like you don't," Remus said. "At least, I don't feel any magic coming from you."
"How do you have magic?" Janus asked Nico.
"It-it sorta runs in my family. My abuelita was the one to teach me how to actually use it. I guess we're witches?"
"A different breed of giants?!" Logan asked, flying off of the counter in excitement. "How is that? That's so weird! What kind of magic do you use?"
"I mean, I can use all kinds? But-but I really only ever use protection and healing magic. Of course, the first type of magic that my abuelita taught me was purity magic."
"Purity..." Logan whispered, fluttering back down onto the counter in disbelief. "I-I can't... my stars..."
"Logan?" Remus asked, slightly concerned.
"This-this is the answer I was looking for! You can help our friend!"
"Your friend?" Nico asked, he could tell Logan was suddenly very anxious or excited about something.
"Have you ever heard of a corrupting curse? One that causes black markings to cover someone?"
Nico frowned, clearly agitated by the idea of it. "Yeah, it's really nasty. I've never actually seen it myself, but I've heard of it and I hate it. Luckily, if you know what you're doing, it's easy to heal."
"Our friend was cursed with it! Our magic can't heal it, but maybe yours can?"
"O-of course! I'll do what I can to help!"
"We need to go now, then!" Remus said, already flying towards the door.
Thomas opened the door and looked over at Nico. "You're sure you can help him?" he asked.
Nico smiled at him, his brown eyes flashing slightly. "Trust me, you'll be able to see just how strong my magic is."
