Virgil hummed in comfort, feeling warm and safe. Everything felt still and nice, it was quiet and it seemed like the whole world was at peace. Something hugged Virgil tightly, and in return the borrower hugged whatever it was back and nuzzled closer. He felt someone breathing as whatever he was hugging rose and fell softly in rhythm.

After a blissful moment, Virgil opened his eyes and took everything in. His heart stopped and he froze. He was in Roman's arms. He was sleeping with the prince in his room and in his bed!

He jerked back, out of the prince's arm with his face flushed red. The movement woke Roman up, who rubbed his eyes slightly confused.

It took a second for everything to settle in, and Roman started flushing himself as he realized what happened.

"Oh my stars," he breathed, sitting up and moving away from Virgil. "Did we...?"

Virgil rubbed his face, taking a deep breath to calm himself down. "I can't believe we fell asleep together."

"I do!" a third voice piped up, startling Virgil badly enough to almost make him fall out the bed.

Both Roman and Virgil looked over to the doorway to see Remus standing there, his arms crossed and a giant smile on his face.

"Remus!" Virgil yelled at him.

"How long have you been standing there?" Roman asked, his face getting redder.

Remus giggled, "Long enough to see you two holding onto each other. You guys are so cute." Virgil threw a pillow at him but the green prince just ducked with a laugh. "See you guys at breakfast!"

"You're dead when I get my hands on you, Remus!" Roman threatened.

Virgil groaned and rolled out of bed, his tail curling around himself slightly. "We kill him and then tell no one about what happened here," he said.

"Agreed." The prince got out of bed himself and stretched his wings. "Though your hair is very soft."

Virgil threw a pillow at Roman, successfully hitting him in the back of the head. "Don't be weird."

"Seriously, is it naturally that soft?"

"I'm going to go get dressed," the borrower sighed, rubbing his arms slightly. "You should too."

Roman huffed slightly before grabbing some clean clothes and brushing his hair. He had to admit, cuddling with Virgil was nice. He was just disappointed he let Remus win, even if he only made up with the borrower since his brother made them.

Guess he kinda owes Remus now. He won't bring it up if his brother doesn't, though, because owing Remus a favor is always horrible.

Once the prince was dressed, he left his room to find Virgil waiting outside his own. His guard was wearing gray pants and a shirt made from purple flower petals. His signature purple hood was wrapped around his shoulders and his bangs were brushed in front of his eyes.

"After you, princess," he said, waving his arm towards the dining area.

"Why thank you, little mouse," Roman teased.

"You cannot call me that after we cuddled with each other."

"Yeah it does sound a bit weird but I'm just going to own it, no regrets!"

Virgil sighed as Roman started to walk off, quickly following him. "I have several."

When the two finally made it to the dining room, Roman froze in the doorway before Virgil could walk through.

The borrower was going to ask what was wrong, but he saw Logan and another fairy next to the king. She had her gray hair tied up in a tight bun, and her blue wings were a faded color. Her eyes were sharp and cold, and she seemed like the type of fairy that you wouldn't want to mess with.

"Annabell!" Roman greeted, putting a fake smile on. "What brings you here, to our dining room, so early in the morning?"

Annabell only looked up at him once before answering. "We have a small problem that I need to discuss with the king."

"Of course."

The older fairy turned her attention to Virgil, who was honestly quite tired of old people staring at him like he was going to hurt someone. "This is the borrower you saved, correct?"

"Yes he is, and I must say he makes an excellent guard!" Roman brought Virgil forward, keeping an arm on the borrower's shoulders. "He's brave and loyal, having saved my life more than once, as I'm sure you have heard."

"I see, he's quite small for a guard."

"Annabell, may we get back to the matter at hand?" the king asked as Roman and Virgil made their way to the table.

"Yes your majesty. Winter seems to have come early, and because of it our food rations have gone low. We've already started storing up our non-perishables for the cold season, however it won't be enough to make it through the season."

"I see, that's troublesome. What do we suggest we do?"

"We might need to announce to the colony that we cannot waste any food, and prepare ourselves for the possibility that we will have to skip some meals."

"It's already that bad?" Roman asked, worrying for his people.

"Yes, already we're low on berries, our seeds and nuts rations won't last the whole season, and it's difficult to grow large amounts of roots in the hard winter dirt," Logan explained.

"What about mushrooms?" Virgil suggested.

"Mushrooms?" Annabell asked.

"Oh! That's right! You've said before that you eat mushrooms back in your colony!" Logan remembered.

"Yeah, I mean some are poisonous but I know the ones that aren't. Some types can grow in winter, and it may not be much but it could help a little."

"How will we know if mushrooms will be edible for our people?" Annabell inquired.

"Well so far, everything we can eat, Virgil can as well," Logan explained. "He seems to have a similar digestive tract as us."

"Very well, then Virgil and Roman will be put in charge of collecting mushrooms," the king decided.

"Your majesty, how can we be sure none of the mushrooms he picks out will be poisonous?" Annabelle warned.

"Well why don't you go with them? He can test taste the mushrooms in front of you, that way you know that they're safe."

"Fine, I will." Annabelle stood up straight, fixing her shirt. "If that is all, I'll take my leave. Prince Roman, when you two leave to go mushroom hunting, be sure to find me. Don't leave without me."

"Oh boy," Roman sighed as Annabelle walked out. "Does she really have to come with us?"

"We want to put her mind at rest," the king told him. "She and the other elders are still worried about Virgil's intentions. Spending the day with her will be good, it will show her that Virgil is no threat."

"Well I'm suspicious of her, how do we know she's not the one that tried to poison Virgil!"

"Roman, I am surprised! Do you really think anyone on the council would stoop so low to do that?"

"Well yeah! Considering the fact that they voted to execute him before they even met him!"

"They might jump the gun often, and they may be paranoid, but they always do things by the book. None of them are allowed to go against the kings and queens orders, it would break the law!"

"It'll be fine, Roman," Virgil agreed. "She won't try to kill me with you around."

The prince sighed, "I suppose not."

"Good, now eat your breakfast," the king said. "You heard her, we can't waste anything."
