Arlo
"We really did it," someone murmured behind me and I was too shell shocked to say anything back. I nodded slowly but even that took more effort than needed.
My energy was depleted and how I was still standing on two feet, I wouldn't know. Maybe it was sheer determination...or maybe it was the fact that one wrong move on any of our parts will destroy everything in our path to freedom.
"You good over there, Arlo?" Someone clapped their hand on my shoulder and I turned around to see Orion giving me a weak smile.
Despite everything, I returned it. Albeit a small one though.
"Good as I can get," I replied back, my eyes taking in every scratch, bite and claw mark on Orion's body. There's blood but not too much, thankfully.
My eyes slid over the others, assessing the damage on Leon and the other Alphas. Despite all the injuries and assaults we sustained, we were alive and still standing on two feet. Well, not counting Scott but that's a different story.
Locking eyes with his pitiful form, I take in Scotty's useless leg and freshly scarred face. Out of everyone in this ordeal, Scott might have drawn the shortest straw.
A loud powerful howl penetrated through the air and I took back my inner words immediately. It was wrong of me to think that for even a second.
I closed my eyes for a second, taking a deep breath, before locking eyes with the one who lost the most in the group.
Ariel.
Not knowing how much is what kills us the most.
Keeping my eyes on her deadly wolf, I watched as the crimson wolf kept moving from wolf to wolf, tearing apart our enemies' limbs as if it was made out of cotton candy.
They were all dead, all one hundred plus enemies, but still our Angel was locked in her wolf state. She looked lethal and, Goddess forbid me for saying this, feral. A werewolf who lost all control of their human nature, letting their wolf run rampant.
"Ariel," Leon whispered, taking cautious steps towards the crimson wolf. The vampire was brave, I got to give him that. "Ariel, it's over."
I couldn't agree more.
However, and unsurprisingly, those words didn't register at all to her, as she continued to tear apart the fallen enemies into smaller pieces.
Severed heads, legs, and even tails were flying in all directions and when a human head made its way into Cameron's vicinity, he kicked it away with disgust.
"I think I'm going to be sick," he gagged, grabbing on to his stomach.
"Suck it up," Orion muttered back, before I could get a word out. He started limping towards Leon and before I knew it, both boys were standing a couple of feet away from Ariel.
"Uh guys," Cameron murmured out, panic coating his voice. "I don't think that's a good idea."
"I know what I'm doing," Orion said, but everyone could hear the slight nervousness that he was desperately trying to hide. I don't blame him.
Leon was a different story, however. The way he stood, back straight with his hands clenched to his side, made him look like he was in control of the situation.
I hope that was the case.
"Ariel," Leon said loudly, stopping the wolf in her tracks. There was a hint of power in his voice. Authority, even. My eyes widened. There was something different about him. "I said it's over."
