Chapter Eight

"We sometimes encounter people, even perfect strangers, who begin to interest us at first sight, somehow suddenly, all at once, before a word has been spoken."

The day after Halloween, it was a normal a school day much to all the students' annoyance. The girls had to haul, tug and drag Bryar out of her bed. Bryar grabbed the easiest uniform she could think of and that was a three quarter-sleeved white T-shirt with the school emblem on it and her shredded dark denim jeans with her Converse black high tops. After getting dressed, Bryar flopped on the desk chair that was stood in their bedroom. Noa did her make-up while Carmina did her hair. Noa had to start over a couple times because Bryar's eyes kept falling shut and she would mascara her eyelids or cheeks. When Bryar was finally ready, they left to grab a quick breakfast downstairs even though lessons were about to start in a half an hour. When they arrived, all the tables were completely pristine and clean. The food had already been tidied away so they had no breakfast. Bryar sat down at a table, her head falling in her hands. Without a good breakfast she definitely wouldn't be able to wake up. That's when Aoide walked in with four bowls of cornflakes.

"I know it's not the best but I thought it was better than nothing." Bryar immediately attacked the bowl before Aoide could finish her sentence.

"Ide, you are for today my favourite person." Bryar announced.

"Don't thank me but Lyra and Faye, they gave me the cereal." The girls quickly ate their cereal and left to get their bags sorted before their lessons started.

Bryar's day had been pretty boring so far, nothing really special happened. Rumours still spread about Parisa and Jordan and everyone was still talking about Halloween. Her last lesson of the day was Ballroom, which she really enjoyed. At the beginning of the lesson Mr. and Mrs. Delamere asked Bryar and Morgan if they could talk to them in private after the lesson. They both nodded in reply before continuing their dance. Bryar had wondered the whole lesson what they were going to ask them. She wasn't the only one who wanted to know, different students had come up to her and asked if she knew what the teachers wanted to ask them. Bryar honestly replied that she didn't know while returning to her own thoughts.

The bell rang and all the students started to leave except for Morgan and Bryar. Some of them cast a curious glance their way but left quickly after that. Mr. and Mrs. Delamere waited till everyone was gone before they spoke up.

"I'm sure one of you has heard about the Christmas Masquerade Ball that is going to be held at St. Vitus." Bryar had indeed heard about it, it was one of the biggest parties at St. Vitus. Morgan nodded as well, hinting that he knew what they were talking about.

"Every year we pick one couple to dance the first dance in front of the whole school..." Mrs. Delamere paused, waiting for them to catch on.

"...And we would love it if you two could." The announcement hit Bryar like a ton of bricks. They wanted her and Morgan to open one of the biggest parties of St. Vitus! Bryar was lost for words and Morgan seemed pretty shocked as well. Mrs. Delamere looked worried at them, probably expecting a different response.

After snapping out of her state of shock Bryar answered. "That is so kind of you! I – I mean we – feel really privileged." Bryar said while looking at Morgan.

"I can't think of any reason why we couldn't or shouldn't." Bryar finished of her statement, looking at Morgan's reaction. He nodded and spoke up.

"Thank you for this opportunity. I only have one question, what do you want us to dance? Mr. Delamere answered his question.

"We were thinking of something nice and elegant. How about a Foxtrot?" Morgan looked at her and Bryar nodded in agreement. "That would be perfect, thank you."
