Chapter Seven
"Halloween wraps fear in innocence, As though it were a slightly sour sweet. Let terror, then, be turned into a treat..." Quote by Nicholas Gordon
Bryar had spent her last weeks before Halloween with Ms. Vaci to get the dresses and Morgan's outfits ready. She wanted them completely perfect because they were the main attraction in their dances. Bryar had to give Ms. Vaci all the credit for their outfits because they had turned out even better than Bryar had ever dared to dream. While Bryar was busy with their outfits, Morgan had made sure that they had everything they needed: decors, props and what not. The night of Halloween was coming close and everything was finished. Bryar had gone over the dance with Morgan and ran over it a couple of times in her head.
When it was seven o'clock Bryar went downstairs to have dinner with the rest of the school. There she sat with the girls and they spoke animatedly about their dances and their partners. Aoide's partner was Wilmer Sutherland, Carmina's partner was Jaron Wessex and Noa's partner was Reeve Pontair. All their partners complemented them perfectly. Reeve Pontair was overall a very funny guy who always managed to crack you up which really helped Noa get over her shyness. Jaron Wessex was a good guy who had caught Carmina's attention already on the first school day, Bryar reminded herself to ask Carmina what was going on between them. Wilmer Sutherland was a very neat and independent guy who was also very intelligent, matching Aoide perfectly.
Carmina was moaning about her theme, the Wizard of Oz, that she never possibly could be the evil witch because green as a skin colour was just plain awful. Noa and Aoide giggled while Bryar just rolled her eyes. So Carmina. Noa's theme was Vampires and Aoide's theme was Pirates. They all had a lovely dinner and when it was over they quickly went upstairs to get into their costumes to dance their dances.
Their first dance was the Tango. They had rehearsed it loads of times but when Bryar stood on the stage with the whole year looking at her, she felt a little tension building in her stomach. As if Morgan could feel her tension, he soothingly rubbed his hand down her arm. Surprisingly she started to feel better. As thanks she gave him a small smile, which made a soft pink tinge appear on his cheeks. Before they went on they ran a last time through the steps and the props use. They had memorized the whole routine completely, just like you were supposed to do. While waiting for the starting signal, Bryar looked at and corrected her outfit.
Their Tango was more about the mirror element in Snow White than the rest of the story. So using that idea, Bryar's dress was made out of a simple pattern with sewn mirror fragments on it. The dress had a deep V-neck line and a very low back. The material was a dark grey with a black glow to it, which gave it a more dark and sinister feel to the dress.
On the front of the dress there were diamond-shaped fragments of a mirror sewn on, two rows, with the size decreasing. The third row was an equal line that ran just above Bryar's hipline, which was bare. This was also very little skin but unlike the other dress – where silver lace was hiding the skin – nothing was covering it. The back of the dress was cut in a low V-shape and there was one row of three big diamonds, which left the skin bare just like on the front.
The rest of the diamond-shaped fragments carried on like in the beginning but were bigger than at the top. It ended about mid thigh length and the rest of the dark grey material hugged her curves closely. The dress also had a split in it but that was to show the footwork more than use for the material of the dress unlike her Paso dress.
Bryar decided to stick with red lips and a black wig but instead of having it loose she decided to tie it up into a tight bun. It was just in the hollow of her neck, and she had an elegant plait over the top of her head with a couple of loose strands to shape her face.
