Chapter Nineteen
“Watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.”[1]
Throughout the week Bryar visited Aoide every day with the girls and kept her updated on everything that happened. Aoide was released on Friday afternoon and to celebrate they went out to her favourite café to have a good cup of whatever they fancied and a big slice of cake. In the weekend Bryar went over the American Smooth a couple of times and sometimes she also rehearsed with Morgan. She loved being around him and he really helped her as well.
Sunday she sat down in her room and decided to get started on her dress. Bryar looked at her pattern ideas that she had seen on other American Smooth dresses that Mrs. V had used as example. In the end she decided to create a one-shoulder model dress with on the bodice the material was stitched so that it had a plaited look and a straight falling skirt.
The dress was very flattering for her because it showed of her thin waist but flowed out beautifully in the spins and lines. Bryar decided to go with natural colours that complimented her skin and hair. She found a lovely peachy nude shade what she used to make the dress out of. She used some sheer material for the strap and looked at it for a bit. As she bit the end of her pencil and closing her eyes, she wondered what she could do to really make it shine. Suddenly she remembered something Mrs. V had said and immediately started sketching.
The idea she had was to add sequins and beads everywhere on the front of the dress to really make it stand out, but she needed an expert to do that. In her next lessons she went to Mrs. V and asked her if she knew anyone who could help her out. She gave her the name of one of the seamstresses at school that did all the details on all the costumes of the school. After school, Bryar grabbed her dress and walked around in the sewing department, looking for this woman.
Soon enough she found her and it was a very nice lady. Bryar explained what she wanted done on her dress and the woman had some amazing insight and ideas for her dress. The next couple of days Bryar spent her afternoons in the shop finishing her dress. The result was well worth it, the dress sparkled like a diamond and it fitted her like a glove. Bryar bought some chocolates to give as a thank-you to the woman and couldn’t wait to show her creation to everyone else.
Bryar had already decided to keep everything as neutral as possible and to tie her hair back but she would ask what Carmina and Noa thought about it on the repetition so they could see what worked and felt the best. The dress, paired with her nude heels and accessories-less arms, really was perfect. Bryar was so happy with the result that she could only smile for the rest of the day.
The weeks passed by quickly and before Bryar knew it, it was the week before Open Evening. The students could definitely feel the pressure and things had started to become slightly hectic. Bryar did her best to not let the pressure get to her so she mainly focused on her homework and making her America Smooth as perfect as possible. After school one day, she also met up with the girls and they went over each others’ dresses and gave each other advice and just had a lovely little get together. Carmina and Noa agreed with Bryar on keeping it as natural as possible. Also, Aoide was by now completely better but the girls didn’t try and draw too much attention to her and just not really to mention the subject when it wasn’t necessary.
