Chapter Twenty-Two

“Dance is your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing. It’s the expression in time and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness and envy”[1]

They had decided not to tell anyone else yet about Morgan’s progressing illness because it was only in its early stages and they didn’t want their friends to worry about it. Jaron and Wilmer had brought him to the infirmary but they didn’t know anything else and didn’t push for more information either. Also after the May Banquet, things had calmed down quite a bit. The teachers had told them that June was going to be the calm before the storm. Bryar didn’t mind this as much as she should, knowing that they were going to have to do loads of work in July. She spent most of her time with Morgan.

Ever since their confession in the infirmary, Bryar felt herself and Morgan become even closer than they were before. In the weekends they always went away together to visit places and throughout school days they mostly roamed the school grounds. Being away from everyone helped relieve the seriousness of Morgan’s situation. She had also been with him to his appointments. At first it was harder than Bryar expected it to be, once they started to talk about it spreading and chemotherapy Bryar felt her throat close. She stayed strong though, because she knew Morgan needed her. And she needed him too.

One weekend, Bryar decided to plan something special for Morgan. She had called people and arranged things so it would be absolutely perfect. It took a week to get everything done and Bryar knew that Morgan would absolutely love it. Friday afternoon, once school was finished Bryar met up with him – like they always do.

“Hey.” He said and kissed her softly on the lips.

“Hey.” She smiled. She grabbed his hand and they walked off into the gardens. They had been walking for quite some time when Bryar decided to put her plan into action.

“So, I was thinking. It is about time we went on a date again.” Morgan raised an eyebrow.

“And when did you so happen to decided this?”

“During my English class. There wasn’t much else to do anyways.” Bryar said, referring to Ms. Bronte’s hour lecture on a book they all supposed to have read. Morgan laughed.

“Okay, a date it is –“ Bryar interrupted him.

“But I want to plan this date.” This time he raised both his eyebrows.

“Well, I guess you can be the guy for one night.” Bryar smiled and hugged him close.

“Thank you! I was thinking of going tomorrow night?” Her happiness was contagious for Morgan’s eyes crinkled at the sides with happiness.

“Of course. Anything for you.” He said, after he kissed her forehead. They spent a couple more hours wandering around the gardens before making their way back to their dorms.

The next day was a Friday and – just as Bryar had planned it – they were going on their date tonight. She had told him to wear something nice, but not too fancy. She had decided to wear a high low dress that she had bought for her sixteenth birthday. It wasn’t too fancy but Bryar loved the colour. It was a light aquamarine. The dress was strapless with a sweetheart neckline and had a little V-shape in it to show off a little cleavage. The dress came to about mid-thigh and ended at the back just above her heels. The colour of the dress faded out in an ombre style. Bryar decided to keep her look very simple so that she wouldn’t look to fancy. She paired her dress with a pair of silver stiletto’s and some long sparkly silver earrings. Carmina had curled her hair slightly to make it look very natural with some volume. Noa had made her up with a beautiful smoky eye look, bringing out the green in her eyes, and added some blush and pale pink lipstick.
