Chapter Two

"To dance is to reach for a world that doesn't exist."

The next day Noa and Aoide woke up Bryar and they got dressed into their school uniforms. The school uniforms were very varied. You could choose from a skirt, a dress – cotton one for the summer and a knitted one for the winter – or trousers, also in varied leg lengths. On top of that you could choose a simple white blouse, cardigan, jumper or blazer with the school emblem sewn on it. As for shoes, you were allowed to wear anything as long as it was black and you wore it without moaning. The school's colours were navy blue and white. If you had long hair you had to tie it back with a plain hair elastic. Bryar decided to wear the cotton dress with her white cardigan and shiny black flats.

To finish her outfit off she grabbed a couple of silver bracelets and her favourite silver watch. She also wore her favourite necklace: a ballerina. A long time ago, her aunt had given it to her and it was kind of her good luck charm.

She applied her make-up in the bathroom and combed her hair, plaited it and went downstairs with Noa and Aoide to have some breakfast. Carmina was already waiting there for them. The room was filled with students; Noa had told her that everyone – no matter which year – ate every meal together. Bryar stared at all the pictures in the room and accidentally bumped into Morgan. Again. Bryar felt a blush spread on her cheeks.

"I'm so sorry. This keeps happening to us." Bryar said to Morgan while motioning to their collision. He chuckled quietly, which made a smile appear on Bryar's face.

"Are you still going to walk on?!" Someone impatiently asked. This only made Bryar blush more evident than before.

"Bye. I'll see you later, Bryar." Morgan said in a soft tone but Bryar had heard every word. She watched him walk away speechlessly. He was so sweet. Noa giggled beside her and Bryar hadn't missed Aoide's look full of curiosity.

"Details, sister." Aoide said, surprising Bryar. She thought Aoide wasn't the one to gossip but she saw a twinkle in her eye, telling her that it was only her secret that she wanted to hear about. They walked over to Carmina and she immediately bombarded Bryar with all her questions.

"Blaze, why didn't you tell me that you had met that fine piece of meat before?" Carmina said making the other girls laugh. The food was really very good. Bryar was very relieved at that because she definitely wouldn't last here if their food was terrible. The four girls had a lovely breakfast together. Suddenly the bell went off and Bryar looked at the girls in confusion who pointed at the big table where the teachers were always seated. There was Mr. VanderBilt standing up holding a microphone.

"Dear students, I hope that you have enjoyed your breakfast and that you are ready for your first day of school. I hope that everything it to your satisfaction." He said. He continued for a good ten minutes about the school rules but Bryar had read the book with the rules that they had received yesterday so she let this slide. Then she same bell went off again and all the students stood and left their tables to get ready for their classes, Bryar followed the rest.

When the girls were upstairs they got their books for the first three lessons that they had. For Bryar those were Art, Cosmetics and Drama. Art, all forms of Dance – Ballet, Ballroom, Technique Class – Drama, English, History, Music and Physical Education were mandatory in every year so she had these lessons with her class.

For Art she had received a thick book about loads of different techniques and how to use them. It looked very interesting and she was really looking forward to it. For cosmetics she had a very thin and square book named: The Ultimate Make-up guide, the school edition. The letters were tiny and the book looked centuries old. For drama she hadn't received a book but a folder with the instruction to put music and lined paper in it.
