Desiree's POV

Out of curiosity, I walked to over to his phone. It was unlocked and it was showing a texting conversation with Lachlan. I picked up his phone and scrolled down, reading their conversation.

And I immediately regretted viewing their texts.

Bold: Mitch, Italics: Lachlan

Mitch how am I going to tell Dez about our bet?

What is he talking about?

I have no idea. If you tell her about it she's going to freak out but you can't keep it a secret forever

She's already sketchy about me being so cut off from her. what do I do

Keep it cool and stop being so weird about it

Should I tell her about it?

No keep your mouth shut

Isn't she going to find out anyways though

The less she knows the better your relationship is at stake

She was a bet, Mitch. How-

---

I gasped dropped the phone as a mixture of emotions flew across my face.

He didn't love you.

Everything was fake.

You were just a bet to him.

I ran downstairs into my room, but I bumped into Rob and stumbled back.

"Desiree! What's wrong?" he demanded and stopped me from running.

"I'm fine," I whispered and pushed past him and ran into my room. Rob ran after me and Vikk, Jerome, Lillia, and Haley came to me as well.

"Desiree! What's wrong?" Rob repeated.

"I'm okay," is all I would say back and buried my face further into my arms.

"No, you aren't, Desiree. Just let us help you," Jerome said caringly.

"Dez, please tell us what's wrong," Vikk begged.

"Desiree, tell us," Lillia pleaded.

"We can't help you unless you say something. Please, Desiree," Haley cried.

"All I was to Lachlan was a bet. Mitch was in on it, too," I whispered.

"Oh my God, Desiree, I'm so sorry." Lilla hugged me.

"That douche, I knew that it wasn't true," Haley growled.

"I can't believe it was all a bet..." I said softly. They stayed with me for a while, then I pushed them away.

"C-can you guys leave? I'm sorry, but I think I need to think about all of this for a while," I whispered.

"S-sure, we'll leave you alone," Haley said hesitantly.

"Thanks," I murmured and they slowly walked out of my room after giving me comforting words. Vikk closed the door behind him and I heard them muffled words that I couldn't make out.

Haley's POV

"How is she not taking this hard?" Vikk asked.

"Most people don't have such a dark background. But for Desiree... she's been through so much heartbreak. So much that she's been able to not take things as hard as most people would because of the walls she's built up."
