Lachlan's POV

I sat on the edge of my bed, scrolling through the pictures saved on my phone.

Half of them were pictures of Desiree and I taking selfies together. Some of them we were smiling, others we were making funny faces.

I smiled a little, remembering the times Desiree was smiling and laughing with me.

Then I saw a photo of us kissing.

My smile fell and I immediately pushed the "off" button on my phone.

I collapsed back on my bed and groaned.

Why am I lying to her? I don't want us to be friends.

But she does.

I asked her for us to be friends and nothing more because I could tell that she was done. I saw it in her eyes.

Even when I asked her she hesitated before talking. She smiled and looked genuinely happy that we were only friends.

If she was able to get over me, then I should be able to get over her... right?

Who am I kidding, I still love her.

I sighed and sat up, getting off of the bed.

I began walking down the stairs, then I heard Desiree laughing and froze.

"I'm leaving right now. You're already there with them? Okay, I have the dress and the mask in the box right now. Yeah, mmhm... love you, bye," I heard her giggle and make a kissing sound.

Since when is she dating?

I walked a little faster down the steps and stopped when I saw her walking towards the door.

"Where are you going?" I asked, a little harsher than I meant it to come out.

Desiree jumped a bit and turned her head around, looking up at me with a small frown.

"What? I'm not allowed to go out of the house?"

"No, I'm just curious as to where you're going." She turned around fully and folded her arms.

"To get ready for the prom with Lillia, Haley, and another friend. Can I leave now?"

"Oh yeah," I said sarcastically. "A friend."

Her expression turned hurt, than angry.

"What are you talking about? Jake is my friend!"

"Uh huh, because it totally sounded like you were talking to him like a friend. Sure, Desiree."

"Can you please stop acting like a jerk? For the last time, Jake is my friend. F-R-I-E-N-D. God, even if I was dating him, you can't control my love life! Just because we are just friends and I'm not dating you, doesn't mean you can prevent guys from being around me, okay? Goodbye," she said angrily and stormed out of the house.

I blinked and cursed, following after her.

"Desiree, wait," I called and grabbed her arm.

She yanked her arm out of my grip and scowled.

"Stop it, Lachlan. Leave me alone," she growled and continued to walk to her car.

"Desiree, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be like that." She whipped around.

"Finally off your man period, now? Thanks, I could use less of your jerkiness and jealousy over all the other guys I laugh and smile with," she smirked, tucking the box under her arms and putting her hands on her hips.
