Desiree's POV
One more day. One more day until I finally turn nineteen. Well, I mean I guess its not really a big deal, just that I'm one more year away from entering the twenty squad. Lachlan told me he was just going to keep it simple with a fancy birthday dinner with the guys and my other friends (basically Lissa, Lillia, and Haley). Definitely not including Jake, even though I really wanted him to come. My boyfriend was picky with the guys who came to celebrate with me.
Honestly, I would be lying if I said I didn't find it adorable how jealous he can get.
For the whole week, the girls have made it their priorities to do their really girly traditions to keep me busy and make me feel like a jewel. And I can't say that I've been totally enjoying it. Because incase you have forgotten, I've never been that one girl who showers herself in makeup and looks like a total beauty queen in her skin tight outfits with four inch heels and hair that looks like it should have an award. I throw on random t-shirts and skinny jeans and throw my hair carelessly into a high ponytail. I never took the time to perfect the way I looked. Ever.
So the perfume shopping and jewelry scouting was pretty new for me. And dear God, girls must really burn off a lot of calories by running from store to store and clothing racks to clothe racks. How can they possibly not get bored by pushing past all those shirts and pants for five freaking hours straight? Like, all that intense arm work. I scrunched my nose at the thought of that.
"Ooh, there's a fifty percent off sale at Old Navy's, ladies!" Lillia screamed and led the way to the store across the mall. I mentally groaned, but Lissa orally did it. She- along with me- hated shopping. At least someone here understood where I was coming from.
"Hey," Lissa whispered lowly, so low that only I only heard her, and I barely caught it, "you wanna ditch shopping and go see a movie?"
I looked at the other two shopaholic girls running wildly ahead to the store. "I'm not sure, Lissa, they're taking me out for my birthday week. It's their version of a birthday celebration treat. I think I should probably stick around and be nice about it. I mean, they look like they're having a good time. I don't wanna, you know, crush their feelings and happiness? It's just not what I do," I replied and she groaned in desperation.
"Pleaaaaase, Dez, my legs cannot handle all of this walking. Like, if I walk anymore, my legs are gonna pop out of their sockets. I'm serious," she growled with a frown, her hands clamped on her waist.
I winced in horror at the image of her legs being grossly dysfunctional, then sighed in defeat. "Okay, I'll talk to them. I'm not ditching. Maybe we can take an hour break and eat at the food court. But please don't give me anymore of the visual threats. It's really disturbing." I lightly laughed and she murmured and apology.
***
After searching through Old Navy for a good ten minutes, we found Haley deep in a mound of clothes and, to Lissa's delight, got her approval to take a break from running through stores.
We decided on a vegetarian pizza, and the guy who gave me the pizza and soft drink cup was definitely flirting with me, but it was pretty pathetic. He even gave me his number on a receipt I didn't even ask for. And when I turned around, I could literally feel his eyes dragging down my back and landing where every perverted guy looks when it's in sight.
