Desiree's POV

I looked up from my novel.

He was still staring at me from his small group of friends.

I blushed and covered up my face with my novel. It felt as if he could see through the pages.

This is freaking creepy, I thought to myself.

That boy is one of the most shy and quiet student in our school when it comes to talking to other people than his friends. He usually sticks around his little group of friends, so I never see him talk to others. He looks around my age, about eighteen, or nineteen. He has peach-colored skin, icey blue eyes, and soft-looking light blond hair. To be honest, I think he's cute.

"Desiree!" I looked up in the direction of who was calling my name.

Jordan.

I held my breath and shoved the novel in my face again.

Jordan is a part of a rank of students called Populars.

I hate him. Hate is a very strong word, and one that I use pretty often, and it fits my thoughts about Jordan perfectly. Annoying is another good adjective to describe him.

Even though I'm the lowest of the lowest of Outsiders, the rank of students that are treated like peasants by Populars, and even Regulars, he still loves hitting on me and trying to get me to "go out" with him. I hate it.

I ignored Jordan, but he apparently thought I didn't hear him and swaggered his way to me. He sat right next to me, and I slid to the end of the stone wall.

"Oh, c'mon! Just once?" he said in fake pleading way and moved to my side again.

"You already know what the answer is, Jordan!" I said impatiently and stood up to move to a table far away from him.

I looked down to read my novel, but I was interrupted by one of the many crew of Populars that love picking on me.

"Hey, Loser!"

Multiple people were shoving me around. I looked up slightly and my eyes immeaditely narrowed.

This crew of Populars I especially hated. The group with the two snobby girls that used to be my close friends, but betrayed me. For popularity.

Lillia and Haley.

"Reading your romatical stuff again?" Haley jeered. She punched me in the arm. They give me so many cuts and bruises all the time, that my body adapted to it and doesn't take it in too hard.

"Have you been enjoyin' your crappy lovey-dovey book, Loser?" Derek sneered while chewing bubble gum.

I still looked down at the novel, as if I looked at them, their eyes would turn me to stone.

"Yes, I have, and it's not a book it's a novel," I murmured.

Derek apparently heard me. "Book, novel, same thing, Loser!" He jabbed a finger to my chest and causing me to trip over the table and fall.

The novel flew out of my hands and into a puddle. "NO!" I screamed.

My eyes became wet with sadness and anger, but I turned away so no one would see me crying and quickly wiped my eyes.

The people around me and the Populars laughed and pointed.

"Loser! Loser!" Lillia taunted.

I couldn't run and get the novel, or else the whole crew would beat me up. Why don't the teachers stop the Populars? Well, one, if I told them, the Populars would find out and make my life even more miserable than it is, and two, the whole school fears the Populars, (including the teachers and principle, horrible school, right?) so... yeah.

"Why would you do that, you horrid monster?" I whispered. The crew moved forward to pounce on me, but Derek held one hand up, and they stayed in there place.

"You'd better watch your mouth, or you'll join Mommy and Daddy pretty soon!"

That was the final straw.

"HOW DARE YOU?" I screamed and jerked to stand up. I clenched my fist and punched Derek in the nose. There was a satisfying crack. He staggered back and cupped his hand around his nose.

"OH GOD!" Lillia shrieked.

"YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS, LOSER!" Derek screamed.

The crew started for me, but someone stepped in front of me.

"Hey! Stop bullying her!" the person shouted.

I blinked. Is someone defending me? Who on Earth would defend me?

They glared at the person, but backed off. The person turned around.

I found myself looking at a boy my age, brown hair and soft brown eyes, and cream-colored skin. Honestly, he was pretty attractive, and I was already starting to like him.

"Are you okay?" he asked, taking me out of my gaze.

I hugged him quickly then stepped back.

"Yes... thank you for making then back off. That was really nice of you," I said blushing and looking down at the ground.

"My pleasure," he said. "But I think that you should probably get your book."

"Oh, right," I said quickly. I walked over to my book and picked up its drenched form. We began drying it with napkins, but the bell rang to get back to class. I sighed and wrapped the soggy book in dry napkins.

"So I'll see you later then?" he asked.

"Yeah," I said awkwardly and shifted the weight of my bag on my shoulder.

He turned away, but whipped back around. "I didn't catch your name.''

"Oh, Desiree Mariano. Your's?" I said, holding out my hand.

"Preston Arsement. It was nice meeting you, bye!" he said shaking my hand. He turned and walked back to his class.

"Bye," I said softly and slowly walked back to class. As I walked, I could faintly hear Preston muttering under his breath, "Desiree, Desiree, Desiree..."

I sat in my seat and put my novel away.

"Good afternoon, class," Mr. Mallentark said in a tired voice. "Today, in world history, we will start reading deeper into ancient Blah. Please take out your blah, and turn to page blah blah. 'Blah was around blah blah blah..." I didn't catch the rest.

I put my elbows on my desk and my head in my hands, thinking about how a complete stranger stopped the Populars from attacking me. I snapped out, since some snob Populars shot chewed paper-balls at my head with a straw from the back of the classroom. I turned around; it was Derek's crew.

They sniggered.

I took out the paper-balls from my hair and threw it on the floor.

I turned to face the front and took out a piece of paper. I wrote, "You'd better stop now, or your faces will end up even worse than Derek's" and showed it to them behind my chair. I heard gasps from the back. I smiled and tossed my bangs out of my face.

One of my favorite things to do when Populars bully me; give them a taste of their own medicine.
