Chapter 24

"Easy now..."
Gavin was training for the upcoming semester. He was carefully plotting floating targets in the sky. It was an ordinary afternoon for Gavin to train seriously.
The Land of the Eagle's Blessing or Menoyoi is a vast, foresty land that had cottages and camps in different areas. Above the land soared many birds especially eagles. All people there are blessed with the gift of the Eagle's Eye. They are known for their major skill which is archery.
Gavin was practice shooting in the sky. He was standing on thin air while aiming for each target. He jumped and released each arrow. He was also graceful at the same time. There was no flaw in his shooting, and he did not miss any of the targets.
"Not enough," said Gavin, determined. He still could not get over the fact that a powerless batch mate of his could win second place. It was very intriguing to him. He thought that maybe he was hiding something; yet, again, it was impossible.
Gavin experimented more techniques to come up with a new ability. He worked so hard to come up with new tricks, and he did not get tired.

"Hey, Gavin!" called out an annoying female voice.
"What?" Gavin replied as he was about to shoot an arrow.
"Aren't you getting tired yet?" asked the girl.
"Nope," Gavin replied casually.
"Mom will get furious if you don't come home this instant," warned the girl.
"Shut up, Lana," said Gavin. "You're blabbering stings my ears."
"I don't care. I'll even drag you home if you won't come," said Lana.
"Shut up."

Gavin looked at the statue standing on the eastern side of the village. He was looking at a ten-feet-tall statue of a male hunter.
Yura Ur.
An epic hunter who was once a member of The 7 Legendary Pillars of Light. He was a very powerful archer who sacrificed himself to save his village during the ultimate war.
Gavin always wanted to be like him. He sees him as an exemplar.
One day, he thought, I'm gonna exceed you.
"Gavin," called Lana. "Are you halucinating or what?"
He finally snapped out of his daydream and said, "Yeah, fine. Let's go home, Lana. Go on ahead. I still have to fix my stuff."
Gavin was packing his stuff when suddenly the sky grew even darker. When Gavin looked up, he saw an army of black ravens which almost covered the sky.
A woman was standing on a flock of ravens. She has hazelnut-brown hair tied into a pigtail. She wore a black cloak with a white symbol of a crescent moon. Inside she wore a black tank top and a mini pencil skirt with high-heeled boots.
She looked at the people who were mumbling about her. She grinned at them and mumbled, "Such nuisance. Why would the boss want their power."
She slowly landed on the ground as her ravens scattered. People were staring at her with fright as if she was a dangerous criminal.
A group of men that looked like scouts blocked her path. One of them stepped forward and asked, "Who are you? What is your business here?"
"You need not to know my identity. I'm here to take your leader- Isaac Ur, the wise," said the woman.
"I am sorry, but we can not hand him over," said the scout leader.
She smirked and said, "Oh. Is that so? Well, then, I have to use force." The woman jumped high, and her ravens caught her. She crossed her arms and said, "Burning star shurikens!"
Her ravens started to shoot burning shurikens out of their mouths. It was like raining fire.
People started running away, but they couldn't escape. Some were already hit and burned. Fire started to spread through the forest.
Because of his training, Gavin was able to dodge every fire shuriken by deflecting them with his arrows. He quickly ran back to his house. By the time he got there, his house was already on fire. His heart was racing, so he ran inside his house to save his family.
Sadly, he was too late. His mom's body was already burning to ashes. His dad's head was crushed. He fell on his knees and felt traumatised. Then, he thought of his sister; so he got up and searched room to room for his sister. When he found her, he saw her body crushed by her bookshelf, however; she was still breathing weakly.
"Lana!" Gavin said with fear. He lift the bookshelf and flipped it. He knelt beside her and said, "Speak to me!"
"I-I can't move..." Lana said weakly.
"Come on. Let's get out of here," said Gavin with a shaky voice.
"Brother, don't..." Lana said. "Let me die here."
"What are you saying?!" Gavin said insanely.
"I...want you to have my bracelet. Take it with you as you leave here," said Lana as she tried to grasp for air.
Gavin got Lana's bracelet that had three different charms and beads. He looked at it as he cried.
"That bracelet will help you become stronger, so please take it," said Lana.
"Don't-" said Gavin as he wept so hard, "don't leave me. You mean everything to me."
"That bracelet will always remind you that I'll always be by your side no matter where you are."
"You will always be by my side, Lana. So, please, stay here with me," said Gavin.
Lana, weak as she is, tried to reach for his hand. She slowly gripped it and said, "No matter where I'll be, I will always remember that you are my big brother." Lana smiled peacefully and said, "I love you, brother. U-until we meet again.." Then, she closed her eyes and stopped breathing.
Gavin poured out his tears in despair. He screamed and cursed the woman. From that day on, his heart was filled with hatred. His mind was set with one goal: To become stronger and avenge his family's death!
