Chapter 44
Shannelle was having a hard time with two opponents at once. She though she could handle it; but it just seems that she was too ambitious.
She dodged every attack Argus and Genevere made. They were a perfect tag team. They made the area as hot as an oven. Shannelle felt like her skin was melting.
She didn't know where to stand anymore since Genevere turned the ground into lava. She just stayed on the branches where it's safe. There were also rocks floating on the lava, but they were slowly sinking.
Argus kept attacking Shannelle. He swung his sword at her. Shannelle almost got burned by the flame on Argus's blade. It's good that she dodged those swings right. She didn't wanna end up like Lance.
Argus was so infuriated since Shannelle took him away from Lance during their fight. He was ready for his final blow; then here came the squad to the rescue. The more he thought about it, the more enraged he was.
"How dare you interfere with my battle! I was so close!" said Argus angrily.
"For a legendary villain, you sure are hotheaded." Shannelle leaped away from him.
Argus began blasting flames at her, but it ended up burning the trees.
While Shannelle was busy focusing her attention on Argus, Genevere controlled the lava and made a lava gyser. Shannelle almost got hit. Unfortuntely, the lava splattered, and some of it got on Shannelle leg. She felt it burning, so she fell on a slab of rock and felt the burning sensation penetrating her skin.
Argus saw her in agony, so he took the chance of attack. He began to fall on her with his sword ready to impale her.
Shannelle saw him coming at her. She was frozen in fear for a second. Then, she rolled away. She chanted some words from her book. Argus, then, felt his arms and legs tying together without a rope. He struggled to break free, but Shannelle's spell was strong.
"There. That will hold you for a while." Shannelle still felt the burning. She chanted a spell to boost her stamina.
"Let me go!" Argus demanded. "I swear if I get out of this, I will burn you to ashes!"
"Yeah, yeah. Just talk to the rocks. Like I care," said Shannelle. She hopped on another slab of rock that was just across Genevere. They both stared intensely at each other like they wanted to have each other for dinner.
"You know, it's very rude to stare at people," said Genevere.
"You could say that again." Shannelle's temper got worse each second she stared longer at him. "You're gonna pay for what you did to my leg."
Genevere smirked at her. "Oh. Did I do that? I'm sorry. Must've been an accident; but next time, better watch where you're stepping on. That other leg of yours might burn next." His tone sounded so sarcastic.
Shannelle got furious. She chanted a spell which made five fireballs of different colors appear in front of her. She threw them at Genevere.
Genevere made a grin and said, "Big mistake." He controlled the lava and formed it into a wall of rock. When the fireballs hit the wall, it turned back into a pile of lava; and he manipulated the it going to Shannelle.
She leaped on another slab of rock. She was very attentive. She didn't want to get some lava on her again.
Genevere moved his hands around controlling the lava around his opponent. He formed a tidal wave around her.
Shannelle didn't know where to go. She just shut her eyes as the lava was about to pour on her.
Suddenly, a dome of ice covered Shannelle protecting her as the lava poured down on her.
Shannelle opened her eyes to see what happened. She was just relieved to see she was still whole. The ice dome cracked open, and she saw Lance flying above them.
"You okay?" shouted Lance from above.
"I'm fine," said Shannelle. "How about you? Are you feeling better?"
"Yeah." Lance saw her burned leg."Hey, what happened to your leg? You sure you don't want me to heal that?"
"I'll deal with that later. Go take this obsessed weirdo bound over here already. He's been blabbering nonsense like taking you down. I'm busy with my opponent over here."
Argus began to move around again. "There you are, frost mage!" He struggled to break free even more. Then, with sheer force, the binding spell broke, and he was free. Fire bursted out of his feet, and he flew like a rocket.
Lance was starting to be annoyed. He lured Argus away from Shannelle to give her some space.
"Finally, I'll just be dealing with you now." Shannelle let out a sigh of relief.
"Don't think that you're one step toward victory. The game's not over yet." Genevere began stepping on the lava.
Shannelle couldn't believe at first. She's never seen anyone walk on lava before. She became nervous and began having goosebumps.
"Now fear my wrath!" said Genevere as he controlled the lava around him.
