Chapter 42
"Where could that frost mage be?" Argus continued to blast some fireballs to the city. He enjoyed every blast he made. The trees of the city burned with blazing fire. Because of his consitent blasting, the fire quickly spread throughout the city.
Lance was below them flying toward the giant hawk. He was filled with rage for what Argus did. Although his anger was strong, he also doubted himself deep inside him. A part of him wanted to turn back and retreat. Another part of him just wanted to charge. For some reason he couldn't believe that the day would come when he has to put an end to Argus.
"Are you ready?" Pagos felt the same for his apprentice. He didn't sound very supportive.
"I'm not sure." Lance kept flying toward the hawk.
"You can do this. No matter what happens, I'll always be here," said Pagos.
"Thanks, Pagos. You've taught me well." Lance sounded like he knew he was going to die. He just could not accept his fate.
Argus was still busy shooting fireballs while his teammates were bored of sitting around watching him do all the fun stuff. He laughed wildly with every shot he made.
"That's so unfair." Salvador Wright was pouting on his place with his arms crossed. "Why does he have to enjoy everything while we don't?"
"Relax, Salvador," said Ophelia Lestat. "In time, we will get our turn."
Talon Grimsbane, king of souls, was startled all of a sudden. He felt a disturbance. "I believe that an unlucky soul is approaching. It must be him. I can feel his conscience too. He's wavering inside."
Argus stopped his shooting as he heard Talon. "Did I hear it correctly? The frost mage bravely came to me?"
"You mean US. And, yes, he has," said Talon.
Then, Lance flew past above them. He stopped to take a look at them. His eyes were cold as he stared them deadly in the eyes. He summoned his spear and spun it around like a wheel. Snow began to form as he spun his spear faster.
Argus's grinned widely as he finally saw the frost mage's face. His eyes were filled with bloodlust. He wanted to take him down already.
Argus got his sword and swung it back. The flame on his blade blazed brightly. It grew larger and brighter like the sun. Then, he swung his sword releasing the huge amount of fire.
Lance also released his wheel of snow. It was as big as the fire that Argus made. The two attacks collided creating a huge explosion.
The explosion sent the hawk falling down to the ground along with the villains on it. Lance landed on the ground where the hawk crashed. When he landed, he only saw the bird but not the villains on it. He prepared his stance as he waited for Argus to come out.
"Come out, Argus. Stop hiding and face me like a warrior!" Lance looked around to see where he could possibly jump out from. The area was clear and quiet.
Suddenly, the ground began to crack. Lance was alarmed, so he tried to jump out. When he tried to get out, he couldn't move. He was stuck to the ground. He noticed that a shadow path led to the bushes. He saw one of the villains holding him.
Suddenly, Argus came out of the ground below Lance slashing him with his flaming sword. Then, he kicked him to a wall.
Lance felt aching as he struggled to get back up. He didn't expect someone to hold him down.
"Are you okay?" Pagos asked, feeling worried for Lance.
"I guess. My ankle still hurts from earlier." He slowly got up while avoiding to bend his ankle. "Okay, I'm good." Then, he collapsed and noticed that his chest was bleeding.
"Lance, you need to heal. You're bleeding like crazy!" said Pagos.
"I'm fine!" Lance raised his voice as he punched the wall while frustrated. "Just have faith in me, okay?"
Argus neared him. He was delighted to see Lance struggling. "What's wrong, Shimo? Did you hurt yourself? I can't believe you went back to being a kid!"
"I'm not Shimo! He's long gone. I'm the new frost mage, and I promise to take you down." Lance tried to get up again.
"Oh. Well, then, let's see who's better." said Argus.
While the fight was going on, the other members of the team were heading for the stadium. When they got there, they saw everyone running around and panicking. They tried to gather the people and calm them down, but the people were so traumatized that they can't seem to settle in one place. With the city in danger, the people were horrified.
The team also saw Mr. McGuillon with the city mayor gathered with some other highly ranked mages.
"Mr. McGuillon!" Shannelle called out.
He was surprised to see the team gathered. He was relieved to see them safe. "I'm glad to see all of you. How's team Jupiter?"
"Well, they were all cowards. They stood frightened when the fireballs appeared. They were just all talk." said Marjorie.
"Yeah. I agree," said Gavin.
Mr. McGuillon checked them again. He noticed that Lance was not with them. "Where's Lance?"
Everybody looked at each other for a while.
"He's facing Argus now," said Bryan.
Mr. McGuillon and the mayor were very shocked with what he's heard. "WHAT?! Why didn't you stop him?"
"That's insane!" The mayor agreed. "Let our guards and high ranked officers take care of that!"
"We tried, but he was too hardheaded to change his mind," said Roderick. "He said he must do this alone."
"And, what's worse, he's injured," said Albert.
"We need to get him right now," said Mr. McGuillon as he was about to rush out the arena.
"No, he said that he needs to finish this by himself," said Shannelle.
"But he'll die! He's crazy! He doesn't even know what Argus is capable of!" Mr. McGuillon wanted to teleport to Lance immediately, but he can't.
"But this is his fate," said Albert. "We need to trust in him. I know I was the first one who bursted when we figured out that he was the frost mage. But when we battled that time, he beat me. He's really strong. We just need to have faith in him."
"He's the frost mage, eh?" The mayor thaught deeply about the stories he's heard before. "So, the rumors were true. There was a frost mage in the city."
"That's right," said the team in unison.
A group of officers called Mr. McGuillon and told him he was needed elsewhere. "Fine. But, you need to go help him. He might be struggling right now."
The team suddenly felt excited. They'll finally get to be part of something big.
Bryan raised his hand to salute to the mayor and Mr. McGuillon and said, "Thank you. We won't let you down."
Afterward, the team quickly left the place and rushed to Lance's aid.
"Does anyone have any idea where Lance could be?" asked Bryan.
"Well, we could just use my summon beasts and search for him from above," suggested Shannelle.
"Okay, good idea."
So, Shannelle summoned her phoenix and her griffin at the same time. The team rode on them, and they took off.
