Chapter 18
Flying high across the sky, Lance was feeling the breeze running to his face. Although it was covered with a mask, he still felt the cool wind. As he was flying high, he tried to sense monsters but couldn't feel anything.
"Hey, Pagos, can sense anything?" he asked.
"Not a single thing," replied Pagos.
"That's odd... For a moment I thought I sensed something," Lance wondered as he landed on a building. He looked around, but he couldn't see anything either. "I'll try another method."
He raised his hand in front of him and closed his eyes. Then, he said, "Se tsumou."
A white circular wave started to detect around him. It took minutes just for him to figure out where the problem might be. Finally, he got a clue to where he'll be questing. He spread his wings and flew.
"Coordinates have been detected," said Lance, "The enemy is headed south. Why is it? For what purpose?"
"Let's find out to be sure," said Pagos.
Lance flew faster as his curiosity triggered him. When they got to the destination, they saw a man standing in the sky. He didn't need wings to fly. He was performing a mysterious spell that they didn't know.
The man had red hair that was slicked back. He was wearing a black coat with a scarlet v-neck shirt. He also wore a pair of black jeans and loafers."Freeze!" Lance commanded in another voice. His voice was multiplied and changed into a deep one.
"Hmm? And you are?" asked the man.
"I am the successor of the deceased frost mage serving the almighty King Pagos," said Lance mightily.
"King Pagos, eh?" he thought. "Well, your highness! It's been a long time ever since we've chat."
"The commander of the crimson tides, Zephion. You have the right to remain silent!" commanded Pagos.
"Seriously?" he said with a tone, "You think that your stupid ice magic will work on me?"
"He does have a point. Ice can be melted with one touch of flame," Lance pondered.
"We just have to find a way to defeat him," said Pagos.
"Defeat me? I don't think so," said Zephion, "To tell you the truth, Shimo was a brave soldier; but you? It doesn't show. I would fight anyone in this world, but fighting you would be a waste of time."
Lance was offended with those words. He gripped on to his staff and clenched his fist like he wanted to punch him.
He looked at his opponent slowly and said with grudge, "I'll show you who's a waste of time! You'll regret saying those words!"
"Then, show me, Frost Mage!" he said, suddenly spinning his spear around.
Lance charged in battle with his strength raging. Blue aura glowed around him as he attacked with all his might. Zephion was the same as they collided their weapons.
"Not bad...for a noob," said Zephion as he tried to push Lance back.
"I could say the same for myself; however, you will regret saying that later," said Lance calmly.
"Show me what you got," said Zephion boastfully.
Lance was slowly raging. His aura glowed brighter as he continued to swing his staff as he tried to land a hit. He tried to land heavy attacks that would probably result to bruises, but he couldn't. Each of his attacks were blocked. The opponent was very attentive to observe his single strike.
Zephion strongly pushed him with his spear making him stumble backwards.
Lance stopped stumbling. He lied on the roof of a building with his back aching. He noticed that he's not holding his weapon. He saw it lying meters away from him. Then, Zephion was diving toward him with his spear pointing straight for his heart. Quickly, Lance rolled away letting him crash on the roof, too.
He got his weapon and casted a spell; however, Zephion quickly dodged by jumping high into the clouds. Lance spread his wings once more and flew swiftly into the vast sky. He saw Zephion and charged at him with full force. They collided weapons again and attacked each other countlessly. Lance stopped attacking for a moment and leaped back. He had scars already. Blood dripped slowly out of his arm.
"Why can't you just show your face already?" laughed Zephion, his face with few scratches.
"Why would I?" asked Lance with a serious tone. "What would be the result if I show my face to you?"
"I just want to remember the face of my opponents whom I defeat," he said sardonically.
"Over my dead body," Lance said distastefully as he cast a spell at Zephion. A strong blizzard started circling around him. Then, Zephion was frozen in thick ice.
"I don't know if that was a tough battle, but I really felt the intensity of fighting a legendary warrior," said Lance slowly panting.
"Well, he is a very skilled opponent," said Pagos. "I do not know what he really is capable of, though. Zephion never shows his power to anybody, so I really do not know why he was called 'The Commander of Crimson Tides.'"
"But you're king! You should know all the people in your world, right?" said Lance, doubting Pagos.
"I know most of them. I didn't say I knew all of them," said Pagos as he tried to end the conversation.
