Chapter 8
Wednesday came, and Lance was walking to school like the usuals.
"Lance, wait up!" shouted Shelly as she was trying to catch up. So he stopped to let her catch up. She reached Lance and catched her breath. "Wow, you're early. I don't know how you wake up, but it's hard to catch up."
"I'm sorry. I guess it just became a habit," said Lance.
"I'll try to wake up as early as you do next time."
Then, Pagos interrupted,"Lance, who is this girl you are talking to?"
"Oh, excuse my bad manners," said Lance as they continued walking. "Pagos, this is Shelly Soresity and her head piece is Vivian. Shelly and Vivian, I'd like you to meet Pagos, the king of ice and snow."
"Vivian... Wait, you are Vivian, the brains of assassination?" asked Pagos suspiciously.
"Yes, Pagos, it's me. Vivian. It has been a long time since we've seen each other," said Vivian.
"Wait, you guys know each other?" asked Lance.
"What a coincidence!" said Shelly.
"Yes, indeed, we know each other," said Pagos.
"How?" they both asked together.
"We used to fight side-by-side a long time ago," said Vivian.
"So, you guys must be close," wondered Shelly.
"That's right," said Pagos.
They reached school and went to they're respective classes. Lance walked in his class and it was normal. No one cared to stare at him. He slowly walked to his seat. When he was settled, a guy beside him started to talk to him.
"Hey!" he said as he flipped his pen.
"Oh, hey!" Lance greeted back.
"So, I heard that you're the only one in the campus that doesn't have powers," said the guy straight.
"Okay," said Lance uncomfortably. "You can't put it in that way."
"Yes, I can," he said. "And, guess what? You're the talk of the town. People are talking about you, Lance Garen."
"Okay, you're starting to creep me out," Lance said as he started to look the opposite side.
"I know it's annoying. You're such a poor guy," he said.
"What's your problem?"
"I'm trying to talk some sense," said the guy. Looking smart.
"No, you're not," said Lance. Feeling annoyed.
"Did you say that because you wanted attention?" asked the guy suspiciously.
"I really meant it when I said it. Now, please stop bothering me with useless questions," said Lance.
"Just be happy that someone is talking to you because no one even dares except me. No one even likes to be your friend," said the guy.
"If no one wants, then, it's their choice. I'm not forcing them, and I'm not forcing you, too," said Lance. Raising his voice a bit.
"Chill," said the guy said calmly. "I don't care what the people here says about you. I don't mind at all," said the guy as if nothing even happened. "The name is Justin Barret, by the way. I specialize in dark magic."
Lance remained silent as he looked outside the window. He also didn't notice him.
"You don't need to do the silent treatment," said Justin as he placed his hands behind his head.
"Just please don't annoy me," begged Lance.
"Yeah, yeah."
Lance felt so lonely all of a sudden. He thought about what Justin told him. He stared at his desk and said, "Hey, Justin, I just want to say thanks."
"For what?"
"For being the first one to be my friend in this class. It's really lonely to have no friends," said Lance.
"No biggy."
He finally met a friend in his class. He didn't feel too lonely afterwards. So, they started their class routine and continued their classes.
Lunch break came, and Lance was going to the rooftop for some alone time. He ate lunch there and had some chit-chat with Pagos. Suddenly, the door of the rooftop opened. Standing on the doorway was a guy with cool black hair. He had nerd glasses on, and a pen clipped on his necktie. It was Justin.
"Oh, Justin, what are you doing here?" asked Lance nervously.
"Well, I've decided to come up here. Then, I heard two voices, but I only see one person," said Justin. He looked serious suddenly. "Okay, Lance, who were you talking to?"
Lance stood up and said, "Umm. I was...talking to the...sky!"
"The sky... Very funny," said Justin. "I may not care what is happening, but I'm curious with who you're talking to."
He started to shake inside. Then, an awkward silence came afterwards. He quickly walked towards Justin and said as he pushed him, "You know what, you're just wasting your time. Go back to the classroom. I'll just catch up."
Then, he teleported behind him and said, "I'm not leaving until you tell me."
Lance was out of ideas, so he decided to tell the truth instead. He took a great sigh and walked to the railings. So, he said, "What do you think, Pagos? Should I tell him or what?"
"Well, it's okay with me. It's your choice anyway," said Pagos.
"Fine. I didn't want anyone to know yet except Shelly, but since you're so desperate then I have no choice," said Lance.
"Who was that?" asked Justin.
Lance pulled out his snowflake pendant from his school coat.
"Meet Pagos," said Lance with a smile.
"That pendant is Pagos?" he asked. Thinking that it was a lie.
"Yes, I am Pagos," he said.
Then, justin started to believe because the pendant was glowing as it talked. Lance started to explain everything in detail, and Justin believed in it.
"You're...a frost mage..." He was mental-blocked for a second. "You're power is very rare. I can't believe this... You might even become the strongest magician in the entire campus."
"Yeah, but I'm not a magician," said Lance.
"You're a frost mage... Whatever. But, you still undergo magic," said Justin.
"Yeah."
"So, how will you train?" asked Justin curiously.
"It'll be every Saturday with Pagos. I still don't know where, but I'll find a place," said Lance.
Then, Justin thought of something.
"Well, there is this one place where you could train," he said as he held his chin while thinking.
"You do? Wait, what's the catch?" Lance said as he suspected him.
"Good thing you figured it out. Here's the catch... Let me help in your training, and I'll tell you where it is," Justin said.
"What do you think, Pagos?"
"It's okay with me," said Pagos.
"Oh yeah. Cool." Justin was happy for a second. "Meet me here in school tomorrow, and I'll lead you to where it is."
"Okay, but where exactly?" asked Lance.
"Oh, just there infront of the school gate," said Justin.
"Well, I hope it'll be worth it!" Lance expected.
"Don't worry. I've got that covered."
So, Lance's friend became his own trainer. It was a bit awkward at first, but they got used to it. It's up to the training now.
