Captain Paul Maxwell rushes through the hall of mirrors for some considerable amount of time. Annoyed, tired, and helpless, he wanders around hoping to find any way out or finding his friends. The Captain constantly keeps being deceived and confused by his own reflection and as to where the corridors lead to.
Maxwell:
This is getting ridiculous. Dr Grant! Dr Pierce! Brad! Greg! I'm just running around in circles chasing my own reflections.
He rushes around the corner, and then returns to where he first started – the Zero X. There were no reflections of the ship, so is surprised to find it again. He then rushes up to his ship, and another strange bright light flashed around him, teleporting him into the cabin of the escape capsule of the Zero X. Realizing where he is, he rushes out before the doors suddenly close and would have sealed him in. The Captain breathes a sigh of relief and then makes it to the control room. The doors open. All the other members of the crew of the Zero X are present – sat in their correct seats. They turn around and all look at Paul.
Newman:
Paul!
Maxwell:
Doctors! Greg! Brad! How did you all get here?
Martin:
Well after we were all separated, we eventually found ourselves back on the ship.
Grant:
We think we could explore this strange world in the MEV, if we can. But we could give it a go.
Maxwell's seat is elevated to him and sits into it. He then returns to his position aboard the ship.
Maxwell:
That I like! Whoever or whatever is in control here wants us to play along, then we will go for it.
The mirrors turn into a strange, weird glistening world – as the mirror world expands around them so there are no walls. Some edges of mirrors are present and glisten up brightly.
Martin:
Now what?
Pierce:
The world around us is changing. Morphing? Regenerating?
Newman:
From the instrumentation, we can move. There is a space where we can travel along. The hall of mirrors seems to have encompassed itself altogether and gives off the illusion that the mirrors are all around us.
Maxwell:
This must be part of the game then. And let's go for it. Detach MEV.
The MEV blasts off slowly from the main body, uncoupling itself and slowly cruising along the shining, mirrored floor. It continues along for some time.
Anything new to report on the recording of the world outside?
Newman:
Negative. Our instrumentations are going crazy. I just can't make anything out.
A strong powerful beam of light, reflecting from the mirrors, shines onto the top of the MEV. It burns through the top and damages the missile launcher and suddenly has a malfunction. We hear a warning siren and see red lights on the control console.
Missile launcher now out of action.
Maxwell:
Explanation?
Pierce:
I thought I saw a bright beam of light from the reflections. It must have hit us. We potentially could have been burnt alive from it.
Grant:
There must have been a source of light that generated the rays and reflected from what must still be the array of mirrors outside the ship.
Martin:
I don't get it. It's there, but at the same time, it's not.
Maxwell:
Can we fix the trouble? We need the missile launcher in case we need to defend ourselves.
Newman:
Negative. The damage can only be rectified from outside the ship.
Maxwell:
It sure is mighty dangerous and risky by going out there. Stop engines.
Pierce:
I can go and fix it, Paul.
Maxwell:
What? Go out there?
Pierce:
It's our only chance, Paul. We've gotta try it. I'm the least valuable and most expendable person here, I will do it. You said it yourself, we may need to defend ourselves, so it's gotta be fixed.
Grant:
I'm not so sure that's a sensible thing to do, Dr Pierce.
Pierce:
Somebody has gotta try, Doctor.
Maxwell:
Alright. We'll take a chance. You're a very brave man Doctor. But when you go out there, I insist you wear a spacesuit and keep yourself secured to the ship via a line from the interior.
Pierce:
Thanks, Paul!
The ship stops. A hatch opens, and Dr Pierce in his red spacesuit floats upwards like he was in normal space, as we know it. We see three ropes tied to his suit that lead inside the ship. Alternative shots will cut from him, and the interior of the Zero X. Pierce approaches the damaged section and looks to see the big hole made and the dented canon that he can make out from looking down into it.
Hmm. Looks like this is going to be a tough job. It's gone right through into the mechanics and circuitry of the device.
Maxwell:
Ok Doctor. Do you need any assistance?
The tight ropes inexplicably snap! One at a time!
Pierce:
Oh no!
The last snaps off, and he yells as he floats off into the mirrors!
Maxwell:
Dr Pierce!
They watch the doomed man fade and fade into the shining wilderness, becoming smaller and more distant by the second.
Grant:
We've got to go after him!
Martin:
We can't lift off as we are! We may hit him or miss him by miles!
Grant:
We must try!
Maxwell:
Dr Grant, we can't lift off. Not in the situation we are. We could be stranded out here with no fuel, or accidentally harm Dr Pierce, perhaps fatally.
Grant:
But we must help him, somehow!
Maxwell:
Face it, Doctor, he's had it!
We then see Dr Pierce floating about in the strange space, and him facing us. He then fades creepily into the white, shinning wilderness like a ghost, with a helpless facial expression of certain doom...
