Clint
It's still difficult to keep my eyes open, even as I walk out onto the football field. The air is achingly cold, the ground still wet from last night's rain. I stuff my hands in my pockets, my breath letting out puffs of air. Shad, Gracie, Clarity, and Irene are all already there. Shad and Clarity both look widen eyed and slightly nervous.
"So, what's going on? Why did you ask us here?" Irene says as soon as I am next them. Clarity pushes her sleeve up to her elbow to reveal a tiny prick in the crook of her elbow.
"I got one," she says, her voice edged with worry.
"Look how recent too," Shad says before scrapping at the prick. It immediately starts bleeding.
"Ow! Shad!" Clarity says before hitting him.
"You didn't have it last night?" Gracie asks. Clarity shakes her head.
"Ever since we all seen that you four had one, I kept an eye out. I had stayed in my room all night last night doing schoolwork. Does this mean I'm drugged? Someone actually came into my room and drugged me?" She says, her voice shaking. Shad touches her shoulder.
"You're alright, Clarity. You're here and you feel normal," he says, for once in his life being serious.
"But we don't really know if I'm alright, what if something is in my system? Should I go to the hospital and get tested or something?" She says. Irene shakes her head.
"Hey, it's alright. I'm not sure what it is coming from, but we need to not jump to any conclusions," she says, touching Clarity's other shoulder.
"I think she should go to hospital and get examined," Gracie says. "We don't know what this is or why we are getting it, but if she goes to get examined, we might get some answers." My thoughts weren't running along quite the same lines as Gracie's. I see Irene glance at me with a curious thought on her face.
"Say what you're thinking, Clint. You haven't said anything," she says. I look at Clarity.
"Who's your roommate?" I ask Clarity. She looks slightly confused as she glances at Shad and then back to me.
"Her name is Britney. We aren't really friends, she's kind of a bitch," she says.
"Does she have one?" I ask. Clarity shrugs her shoulders.
"I don't know, what does it matter?"
"Because we might've discovered the pattern of when they are appearing on people," I say. All their eyes go wide aside from Irene's, who seems glad of the news, but not exactly surprised. "What dorm building are you in?" I ask.
"Building Four, room thirty A," she says.
"If it's going in the pattern that I'm suspecting, that means the second and third floor in Building Four still haven't gotten the prick," I say.
"No, that's not right, because I got it and I'm in seventeen B," Shad says.
"But you got it right after a big party," Gracie says, "and it must be happening during parties as well because I got it and I don't live on campus."
"Alright, she made a good point," Shad says.
"But this is even assuming that it actually is going in a pattern and isn't sporadic," Irene says.
"So, we do a stake out," Gracie says. Everyone is quiet for the longest time, probably thinking of the same thing as me: How far are we willing to go to figure this out? And this is even assuming that it is a someone and not a something. And if it were a someone, what would we do with them? I mean, they would get kicked out of college for breaking into other dorm rooms, but that's assuming they even go to college. But if they don't, the charges would be even worse, and they'd be facing jail time. What I want to know is why.
"Alright... there's so many issue with that, I don't even know where to start," Shad says.
"We can start with Britney. I'll see if she has a prick and if it is going in the pattern Clint is suggesting, the next rooms will be on the B floor of Building Four. I know they people in the first few rooms and I can check and see if they have a prick too," Clarity says.
"Get back to us as soon as you do," Gracie says.
"Yes, and we can then discuss more of the stake out," Irene says.
A/N:
So short chapter I know, but very significant, right? 😁
