The silent kitten

Chapter 2

As I walk through the woods getting close to the edge I hear noises. I duck into the bushes peeking out to see what was going on. A dragon attack was happening!!! I stayed still watching all the Vikings and dragons fighting and animals running around. I see my brother and sister putting out houses with other people that looked around our age. Then I saw my father fighting a dragon and my mother behind it about to attack it. I didn't want to see this, I couldn't see this. I turned around and ran as fast as I could back to the cove.

As soon as I got there Amenyx came bounding up to me and pushed me over to a small indent in the side of the cove. She pushed me into it and curled up close to me and put her wing over me. I was surprised at her protecting me like this. I peeked out of her wings and looked at her. She was looking around on guard. She looked like she was searching for something.

As she is looking around there was a loud crash which made Amenyx flinch. She tensed up and pushed me into the indent further. I looked at were the sound came from and saw another nightfury laying on the ground all wrapped up. I watched it for a little bit unsure of what to do. I looked at Amenyx who is alert and staring at the dragon. I push her aside and slowly walk over to the dragon. I looked at it and saw that it was another nightfury! I looked at Amenyx who was standing next to me.

I started pulling on the rope that kept it tied down. I looked at Amenyx who was sniffing the unconscious nightfury. "Amenyx do mind helping me get this rope off of it?" I asked her. She looked at me then back at the nightfury like she was contemplating whether or not to help him. She reluctantly starts to bite down on the ropes snapping them and throwing them to the side. I smile softly at the dragon and continue pulling the rope off.

We finally finished getting all the rope off the dragon, I was pulling all of the rope into a pile away from the dragon. I dropped the last of the rope and wiped my brow. I turned around and saw the dragon was starting to wake up. Amenyx walked over to me and stood protectively next to me. I put my hand on her neck watching the other nightfury stumble up onto its feet. It shook its head and groggily looked around and finally noticed Amenyx and I. It got into a defensive pose and growled at us.

Amenyx copied it and growled at the dragon. I looked at it and it looked at me with its green eyes. I slowly walked up to the dragon my hands up till I was a few steps away from the dragon. I held my hand out similar to how I did with Amenyx. I then looked away and closed my eyes. The dragon looked at my hand then at Amenyx who had sat down and was giving a 'are you really doing this?' look at the back of my head. The dragon then put its snout into my hand and relaxed. I open my eyes and look at the dragon that is allowing me to touch it.

Amenyx walked up to us and pushes me lightly with her head. I look at her and place my other hand on her head. I start petting there heads and chuckle at the way that they were purring. I look at the other dragon. "Are you a girl to?" I ask the dragon. It snorts and shakes its head. "So your a boy then" I say with a chuckle. He gives me a gummy smile. I look up at the sky pondering if I should go back home. I look at the two dragons in front of me. They both looked like cats. Giant cats. I looked at their tails and saw that the dragon was missing a tail fin. I kneeled down and slowly put my hands close to his tail. I looked up asking permission and he put his tail in my hand.

I inspected it and found that it was torn. It was also bleeding. I set his tail down and grabbed my shirt and ripped it. It was one of those awful shirts from mothers play room. I wrapped it around the tear. When I was done I stood back up and looked at both dragons. "Amenyx I have to go home but I wanna make sure that he is ok tomorrow so stay here tonight with him. I don't think he can fly without that fin, so make sure he doesn't strain himself ok?" I ask my dragon friend. She gave me nod with her toothless smile.

I smile at both dragons and kiss both of their heads and head home. After walking through the woods and getting to the edge I look around. The fighting has stopped and everyone is cleaning up and putting out the rest of the fires. I look around and see my mother and father help put out a fire at one of the homes. I quietly run behind homes and under fallen debris. I made sure to stay out of sight of any person who was picking things up and doing other things. I finally made it back to my house and it wasn't damaged. I opened the door went to the play room and changed my shirt then I went to the cellar and shut the door.

I just sat in my make shift chair in the cellar waiting for when my family would be back to let me out. I can easily pick the lock and get out even though I just locked myself in the cellar. I was there for a few hours before I heard the door to the house open. I got up and went to the cellar door. I knocked on the wood letting them know that I wanted out. The lock jiggled and my mother stood there looking down at me with a small smile. "Hello my sweet kitten, are you OK? You weren't to scared without mummy here were you?" She asked. "Yes mother I am ok, I was a little scared but I knew you would prevail and come home to me." I reply with a sickly baby voice that I despised with all of my being.

"Yo sis! How was your hole? Hahaha!!! Tuffnut said as he passed by me and mother. "Ya, how was it cowering in your little hole waiting for us to let you out? OH wait what if we died and you were never let out? You could have died in there!! Hahahaha!!!!! Ruffnut says as she passes by and stands next to our brother. They headbutt while laughing. Ya they always do this whenever mother or father were around, but were actually really nice to me when we were alone.

"I was fine and I would have found a way out after all I am the smart one out of the three of us" I reply spitefully. I hate having to act this way with them we are actually pretty close. They like to lay on the floor and have me lay on them and read them stories or just to talk and goof around. We normally do this then apologize when mother and father leave giving us time to hang out together.

"Children I am going to bed I am very tired and no fighting!" mother says as she trudges up the stairs to the bedrooms. Father follows her then looks back at us "I don't want to hear any noise tonight we are tired so go to bed as soon as possible" He tells us before going up the rest of the stairs to the bedroom. After hearing the usual two thumps followed by giant snorts we turn to each other. "I'm sorry" We all say hushed in unison. We all smiled and group hugged.

"So how was putting out fires?" I asked them and they just shrugged. "It's whatever really it would be even better if we could have actually fought the dragons but you know we can't fight until we pass dragon training school" Ruff says with a sigh. "Ya and it's hard enough with Astrid always taking first place in everything!" Tuff says angrily. I just shake my head at them, wanting to tell them about Amenyx but knowing that they would try to go kill her and I was not going to let that happen.

"So what were you doing out of the cellar today?" Ruff says eyeing me. I look at her shocked. "H-how di..." "I saw you running behind a building when I went to get water" she said matter of fact. "I went to the forest to hide from mother earlier and kinda fell asleep in a clearing and when I woke up it was late and the dragon attack happened and I didn't want to get in trouble so I snuck back home." I say a little guiltily. "Aw! Our sister is finally being like us!! She sneaking around and lying ooooooooo this is awesome!! So when do we get to take you out?" Tuff says excitedly.

I looked at him kind of confused then it sunk in. I started thinking. I should show Berk that I am here mother and father won't be around forever and I sure as heck am not gonna be a shut in my whole life. And I was really getting fed up with being mothers little doll. I looked up at my siblings with the smile growing until we all had the same exact smile on our faces. "The day after tomorrow after everyone is done cleaning up the mess I will sneak out in the morning. I will meet you at the dragon training school and start from there." I tell them in hushed tones they look at each other and smiled "Sneaky, smart, a liar what else is she gonna pull out that will make me so proud?" Tuff says while hugging me.

"Well good night you guys I'll see you guys in the morning" I tell Ruff and Tuff as I climb the stairs to go to bed. "Good night lil sis!" They say as they trudge to their rooms. I shut my door and lay down on my bed. I'm finally going to defy my parents. I'm going to go out into Berk and actually see and meet all the other people that live here. I started grinning. Things are looking up for me finally. I roll over with a smile happy that things are going to be different.
