Ch 13: "Talk to you"

(Katie's pov)

We all went outside of the base we were at, and saw Willow fighting some infected.

Willow: Are you guys going to just stay there looking? I don't know if you noticed, but I need some help.

Yes, she was rude, and also arrogant. Still, we went to help as quickly as we could. While doing that, I noticed one of them was about to attack her, so I went to defend.

Felix: Willow, behind you!
Katie: I'll take care of it!

I knocked out the infected with my bat.

Willow: Welp... That was a nice one. And... thanks.
Katie: You're... welcome?
Willow: Did ya'll see? We need more people like this in the world. And in this group.

I felt proud of myself.

Kitty: That was the last one. Let's go inside, everyone.
Katie: Uhm... I'll stay here for a little.
Kitty: Okay, then.

Everyone entered again except for me. While still being outside, I sat in the floor and looked at the blue sky, the clouds, the grass... And everything looked so nice just in the middle of an apocalypse.

Katie: I wonder... how's everyone doing? The hospital, my co-workers, doctor Beary, Brenda...

I felt a couple of tears in my face. Damn, it still hurts a lot. Feeling how my life changed from one day to the next one... But I still had Felix, Foxy and the group. While thinking, a voice interrupted me.

Pony: Hey, you! Watch your back!

I turned around just in time. I could see another infected, but Pony knocked it out.

Katie: That was a close one! Thanks!
Pony: Well, no problem! What was your name, again?
Katie: Just call me Katie.
Pony: So... that isn't your name?
Katie: No. I mean... yes, it is. I mean... I'm confused, okay??
Pony: Then... Are you confused on what's your name??
Katie: No!

We looked at each other in complete silence, and then started laughing.

Katie: *giggles* Sorry. My name actually is Katie.
Pony: Well, nice to meet you.
Katie: We should go inside, don't you think?
Pony: If you say so... I'll go behind you. You need someone to see that nothing is coming. Seriously.
Katie: I know, I was distracted. Is just... I was thinking about someone.
Pony: A friend?
Katie: Yes. I lost her just yesterday.
Pony: Well... I've lost some friends even before the infection. One of them was transferred to another school when we both were little. She was my only company.
Katie: Really? How was she?
Pony: I remember her as a strong and brave girl, someone who I could spend good moments with. I also remember she had two little sisters. I wonder if they already grew. The last time I saw them, they were tiny. Also, she was very intelligent. Sometimes. But... I still miss her.
Katie: Sorry if this makes you uncomfortable but... do you still remember her name?
Pony: It doesn't make me uncomfortable, and, yes. Her name was Zizzy.
Katie: What a pretty name!
Pony: It sure is. She was too.
Katie: Well... but now you have me... I mean... Me, and the crew. Willow must be a good leader.
Pony: I hope she isn't listening because... I hate her. She is so arrogant, and dumb. She only thinks of herself.
Katie: I hope the same thing because you just said things she wouldn't like to listen.
Pony: I know. Also... I wanted to ask, those foxes were your friends?
Katie: Yes! Well, Foxy is the friend of a friend, but yes. And Felix... he has been my friend since a few months ago. We used to hang out together before the infection. And I like him just a little...
Pony: Now that's a big confession!
Katie: I know... But I don't think he...
Pony: Don't worry, if he doesn't, I'll be here for you.
Katie: Huh?
Pony: I mean- *blushes* Not like that!
Katie: I already know it! You're funny.

(Felix's pov)

I was sitting on a bed, but I started getting worried. Katie was spending too much time outside, I started thinking something bad happened to her. I went out of the room and walked to get outside, but I found her in the hallways with Pony. I hid behind a wall and heard them talking. However, they didn't even see me. They left, but I could feel someone behind me.

Baren: Yes, he's still looking at that couple.
Filip: Shh, don't mention them like that!
Felix: Wh- Were you guys spying on me?
Baren: What if we were? I mean, you are spying on them *points to Katie and Pony*
Felix: I wasn't even looking at them!
Filip: Look! They are kissing!
Felix: What?!

I turned around and saw they were still just talking.

Filip: See? You are interested on what they do. Is it that you like... Pony?
Felix: What the... Why do people think I'm...?
Baren: So... It isn't Pony?
Felix: No!
Filip: Ok. Calm down. I'm absolutely sure it was because of one of them...  Wait. Then do you like that cat? Katie or whatever her name was.
Felix: Will you guys leave me be if I tell you?
Baren: Maybe.
Felix: I like her, okay?
