(Katie's pov)

The Silver Paw changed a lot ever since Pony left. It felt... empty. Nobody really talked to each other now. And if you let me say this, even less Kitty and Tigry. If you heard them talking, it was like:

Kitty: Willow told me she needs you in her office.
Tigry: Okay.

And they just get away from each other.

And about Willow... She started being... nicer? Yeah, she was nicer towards us. Maybe... I didn't even know what she was up to. We stopped doing weird things, and we were dedicated to surviving.

But that was going to change soon.

We had moved to an oil refinery some weeks ago. It wasn't as comfortable as our previous base, but at least we were secure in there.
Willow had been in her office a lot, listening to radio transmissions. It was kind of weird since she wasn't really interested in what happened around the world.
I was casually walking around, searching for Kitty and Pandy to go for supplies, I crossed paths with Felix, who was... well... still the same.

Felix: Hey, Katie!
Katie: Hi there, Felix.
Felix: How has this day been?
Katie: Same as always.
...
Felix: Welp, gotta get going.
Katie: Yeah, same. Just in case... Do you know where Kitty and Pandy are?
Felix: I saw them in the conference room.
Katie: Thanks. See you.
Felix: Bye...

I entered the conference room and, in fact, Kitty and Pandy were there, with some papers.

Pandy: Oh, hey, Katie.
Katie: Hi.

Awkward silence after that. As I said, no one really talked to each other. I hated it.

"Let's try again".

Katie: Willow said we'll have to go for supplies. Are you both coming?
Pandy: Ah, sorry hun, I am kind of busy with this right now. Maybe later?
Katie: Oh, okay. What about you, Kitty?
Kitty: Sorry, I can't.
Katie: Okay then. Guess I'll go alone.
Pandy: What do you mean alone? You can ask Felix, Baren, Filip or...
Kitty: Don't mention that name out loud.
Pandy: *giggles nervously, then whispers* Tigry.
Katie: I'm pretty sure they are all busy. And besides, I guess I need to prove to everyone my strength. I'll be alright, don't worry.
Pandy: *sighs* Fine, but remember to be careful out there. Any sound can attract them.
Katie: Alright.

(Felix's pov)

After some minutes of just walking around, I went outside to see if there was any infected.

Felix: *sighs* What a tiring day... Huh?

I could see Katie coming out of the refinery, completely alone. But... weren't we supposed to go in groups of two or more people? I followed her quietly.

(Katie's pov)

It all felt new. Especially being all alone. It was just a supply run, anyway.

Katie: Ok, so... what was it again? Cherries. I don't think there are still cherries in stock. But okay... Anything to see Kitty bright and happy again-

I was interrupted by the sound of some footsteps and quickly turned around. The one behind me fell backward. It wasn't an infected. It was...

Katie: Felix?
Felix: Heh... Hi there.
Katie: Gosh, you scared me!

I helped him get up.

Katie: Are you okay?
Felix: Yeah. Sorry about scaring you.
Katie: Why the heck were you following me!?
Felix: Don't you remember? The Silver Paw rules, number 21: "Members have to stick together when going outside for supply runs".
Katie: Did you learn them all?
Felix: Nope. Only that one, in case something like this happens. Why do you risk yourself, Katie?
Katie: *sighs* I'm strong enough to protect myself! I just needed to... prove it.
Felix: You'll be able to prove it soon, but not this way. It's too dangerous, and I don't want the infected to tear you apart.
Katie: *smiles* Thanks.
Felix: Huh?
Katie: Do you remember when you helped me get rid of those guys? I forgot to say thanks that day.
Felix: *blushes* Oh, yeah... Don't worry.

We continued walking in silence. It was awkward.
We got to the store in no time and talked while hiding behind a shelf.

Katie: Do you think there will be cherries in here?
Felix: If you let me be honest, I'm sure everyone already took them. Why are you asking?
Katie: Oh, for nothing. It's just... I was gonna take some for Kitty, she loves cherries.
Felix: She really is a good friend, isn't she?
Katie: Yeah, and it makes me worried seeing her so sad lately. Love made her suffer.
Felix: Yeah, I'm concerned about Tigry. He might look okay, but I've heard him sobbing at night.
Katie: Well, I'm going to search. Luckily there's at least some seafood.

I tried to get up, but Felix dragged me.

Felix: Promise you'll be careful.

I smiled at him.

Katie: I'll be okay, don't worry.

I walked around the store, while Felix kept looking, in case there was any infected around.

Katie: So... Apples, and apples, and more apples. Uhm... Carrots? Pony isn't here anymore, who eats carrots? ...Whatever. Now, what else? Beans, tuna... Wow, I haven't eaten tuna in a while... And... There they are!

I took a jar of what seemed to be cherries.

Katie: Ok, now... batteries. Where were they? Oh, right.
Felix: Katie, we have to go now, the infected are trying to get in here.
Katie: Sure, just let me...

I took a pack of batteries and took Felix's hand to run for our lives.

●●●

Katie: Finally some peace!
Felix: Yeah... Did you get 'em?
Katie: Huh?
Felix: The cherries. Did you get 'em?
Katie: Oh... Yeah, I guess.

I took the jar out of the bag.

Felix: You're silly.
Katie: What?
Felix: Those are Cherry tomatoes.

We got to the base, I thanked Felix for coming with me, and we continued our chores. I went to Willow's office to give her the batteries since she was the one who needed them.
I knocked on the door.

Willow: Come in.
Katie: Okay.

I opened it.

Katie: Hey. Here are the batteries.
Willow: Oh, thank you.

Wow, who could even think about this? She even said "thank you".
The radio started making some noise.

"Latest news about the work of the military, who are trying to develop a-"

Willow quickly pressed a button to shut it up.

Katie: Huh? Why did you-?
Willow: It's. none. of. your. interest.
Katie: But... Wasn't that important?
Willow: Listen, don't get that nose of yours where they don't call you.
Katie: Oh, come on, Willow! You should-

I was interrupted by more sounds coming from the radio. This time, it was a female voice.

???: Hello? Can anyone hear me?

Willow immediately made a signal for me to shut up, approached the radio, and started communicating, but using a different voice.

Willow: Greetings, we can hear you. This is Settlement Six speaking. Who goes there?
???: Oh! This is the Safe Place! How can I help? Do you need anything?

She smirked and continued talking.

Willow: Actually, I think so. We are looking for communities to trade with. We'd like to meet up.
???: Nice... Where and when should we go to find you?
Willow: Meet us at the Old Oak. Tomorrow at 3 p.m.

She immediately turned the radio off and talked to me.

Willow: Tell the members to gather at the Conference Room. I need to talk to you all.

That evil smirk again. I was afraid of what would happen. I just nodded and walked to get out.

Willow: It's been a long time, hasn't it?

Hola, ya nací.
