Ch 31: "It's fine"

(Felix's pov)

"Did Willow just call her... plague?"

That was one of the only thoughts in my mind. We were going out of the Factory, headed by Willow.
I hated her... so much. But I hated myself even more, for thinking everything was alright. How could I be so...?

Katie: Hey. Are you okay?
Felix: Huh?

Katie tapped my shoulder before talking to me. She seemed... worried.

Felix: Oh, me? Yeah. I'm okay. How 'bout you?
Katie: *looks down* If we weren't in our way to raid a building with innocent people inside, I'd be okay.

She sighed.

Katie: How did our lives take such a twist?

I thought about it. Yeah. How? What would have happened if the infection didn't break out in the first place? I was sure of just one thing. Everything would have been a lot different.

Willow: Alright everyone, we're here.

I snapped out of my thoughts and realized. We stopped in front of a tall building, probably big enough for a huge group of people.

Willow: Baren. Now.

He didn't hesitate. With a rocket launcher he had been carrying all the way there, he shot, breaking one of the windows. The sound was pretty loud. I looked at Katie, who was at my right, and she was just as concerned as I was.

(Katie's pov)

I wanted to stop it. We were hurting people who did nothing to us! Felix looked at me. He probably understood my concern, as he put his hand on my shoulder and whispered.

Felix: It's fine.

"It's fine". I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and thought of it for a second. I looked at him, trying my best to smile a little, and answered.

Katie: It's fine.

What a way to lie to ourselves.

Minutes passed, and finally, the door opened. A group of five people came out, with Pony and the officer from before among them.

Willow: Rise and shine! Looks like we've managed to take you out of bed!
Pony: You again!? You just can't get enough of ruining my life, can you?
Willow: So you've done nothing to deserve it, huh? I've been told that some of you caused quite a stir at one of our outposts.

"Wait. Outposts? How many things are there that we didn't know about?"

Pony: How could you do this to us, Willow? You're destroying the home of many innocent people!
Willow: Oh, look at this horse face. You are just as guilty as us, Pony. The refinery was the home of many people. You, the sleazy cop and that zebra have all caused many relocations. We just can't afford to feed them all in one place.

"Well, she's right in that part".

At that instant, the youngest among them, a piglet who must've been around 13 years old, furiously answered.

???: Leave him alone! You took Zizzy away from us!

Willow looked at him with a mischievous grin.

Willow: Listen, kid. As much as I'd like to defend your friends' actions-
???: Which you don't.
Y/N: *nudges him, then whispers* Georgie!
Georgie: What? She doesn't.
Willow: ... I was saying... *clears throat* As much as I'd like to defend your friends' actions, they've done some horrible things to my people.

"Oh, so NOW you care about us, right?"

She made a signal to Kitty and Filip.

Willow: Take them with us. We'll keep them all in one place where we can control what they do.

Kitty and Filip went forward and surrounded them. Someone from the other group spoke.

???: You can't do this to us! We haven't done anything!
Willow: *crosses her arms* And we'll make sure it stays that way.

I was about to explode. I couldn't just watch as I let this happen! I should have done something before! At that instant, I felt Felix's hand squeezing mine. I calmed down for a bit.

Willow: Well, what are you all waiting for? Let's go!

We left that place, making sure we don't leave anyone behind. The rest of the group was behind them (and yes, that includes me and Felix). I noticed they were all kind of... down. Of course. Losing a friend is not something we want or expect to happen.

We got to the Factory just a bit later, and Willow locked them all in... cells! Just how insane was she?!
I just went to my room, to avoid any trouble. I felt like throwing up. Why did it all have to be this way? Why didn't I get infected back at the Hospital? I sat on my bed and looked at the floor.

Kitty: I understand you.

I looked up. Kitty was in front of me. She sat by my side.

Kitty: But there's a little difference between you and me. You have Felix by your side to help you out.
Katie: ... How do you... keep going?
Kitty: Dunno. I guess some people just have to accept their situation and... move on. But I am lucky to have such a great friend with me. A great friend with us. Katie, please don't be so down. You are gonna get us all worried.

I smiled.

Katie: Okay.

We heard some yelling from outside.

Willow: Kitty! Come here at this instant!

She looked at me and patted my head before leaving.

Kitty: Be right back!

(Felix's pov)

I was walking through the place, and I casually crossed with Kitty.

Kitty: Oh, Felix!
Felix: Hey! Does something happen?
Kitty: Yeah... It's Katie. She might need to talk to someone. I'd do it, but Willow just called me. Can you go?
Felix: Of course. Where is she?
Kitty: Inside the room. Really, thank you.

She left, and I went to the room running. When I was almost there, I could hear sobbing. I entered and saw her sitting on her bed, with her face laying on her knees...
Crying.

Felix: Katie...

She looked at me.

Katie: *sobs* Why am I such a crybaby these days?
Felix: It's alright, you don't have to worry about that.
Katie: I... I just feel guilty. We had to lock them in cells, they are probably miserable right now. And on top of that, *sobs, then speaks while crying* I think I should be blamed for what happened yesterday!
Felix: What do you mean?
Katie: I let them in, okay? *sobs again* I h-helped Pony and his friend... and they took the zebra out of the cell... T-They probably locked up Filip... I-It's all my fault.

I was shocked.

Felix: Are you telling me you did THE ONLY THING I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO?
Katie: I am! What were you expecting me to do? Sit there and see how we infect people, huh?
Felix: Willow gave us an order! We had to do what she told us to!
Katie: And now you sound just like her!

I realized.

Felix: Katie... I-
Katie: Just... leave. Leave right now.

I got out.

"What have we done?"
